Staffing Fees!

Chelsea, on May 6, 2020 at 8:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
Hello Everyone!
June 2021 bride here! My fiancé and I are working the catering bit at the moment and had a bit of a sticker shock at the Staffing fees. We’re hosting a wedding of about 50-60 and were quoted $2445 (having the wedding in Denver). So I’m just looking to see how this compares to others’ experiences! Thanks for any info!

That's actually a really good price. We sent $80 per person for food and drinks. A good way to think about this is called the Olive Garden Rule which is Unlimited soup, salad and breadsticks notwithstanding, at the Olive Garden, an appetizer, a salad, and a few glasses of wine will cost about $50 per person.

That's $37 to $44 per person, which is good. We're paying around $44 per person (not including drinks) for a plated dinner with a mid-range priced caterer.

Weddings definitely aren't cheap. We put together a budget after we researched the average cost of things that way when we started looking at vendors we knew what to expect.

That sounds like a good price to me. My wedding food wise came down to like $55 or so a person

That sounds about right to me, depending what you’re getting for it. We paid $50 per person just for food. Once you included service fee, cake, beverages, it ended up being around $90 per person.

Unpopular opinion I guess but that price for a staffing fee seems way too high. We have a June wedding too and were quoted $1700 for a 50 person wedding. That's not saying the cost per guest, that's saying the hourly cost per staff member. So they're either having a crazy amount of staff for such a small crowd or they're paying them hundreds per hour. Needless to say, we got a different catering invoice back which showed a labor & staffing fee of $360.... We're going that route! haha

That's less than the staffing fee we paid for our bar alone! Our caterer's staffing fee for our wedding before tax was around $7500 (granted we had a very fancy and expensive wedding with 120 guests). Yours sounds like a good price to me!
