St Thomas vs St John

Michelle, on January 16, 2016 at 3:04 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 11

My Fiance and I are planning our honeymoon and we can considering the U.S. Virgin Islands. However, we are trying to decide between St. Thomas and St. John. We are looking for relaxation, beach, entertainment, good food and and overall good time. Which island is better for honeymooners?

You could do both; they are literally minutes apart.

I love St. Thomas; it's quieter though.

FH swears St. John is the place to go. I've been to St. Thomas but a public beach. We were hounded the entire time.

Think I'd go for more quiet if it was me after a wedding.

Do both! Stay on St. Thomas because the airport is on the island and they have plenty of nice resorts there at different price points. Lots of the hotels have private beaches and St. John is a cheap and quick (not to mention beautiful) ferry ride away so you can head over for a day trip or to grab dinner or drinks.

Last time I was there I saw a couple getting married on the beach in St. John! Just them, the officiant and a photographer (and all of the gawkers like me on the beach sneaking photos!)

I'm a scuba diver, so one of my priorities was access to diving, but I have a hunch that either island can provide that (and some of the best diving on the planet; shallow, easy). I'm not a real touristy kind of person, so real 'resorty' places aren't my fave.

I don't really think you can go wrong in either place.

St. John!!!!!! loved it there for a romantic getaway! My fiancé and I went for his graduation present a couple years ago. We didn't spend any time on St Thomas (I don't dive... Yet I hope!) but the glimpse I got after getting off the plane and going across the island in a taxi to get to the ferry made that island seem so hectic/busy! As soon as we got to St John it was like peace and quiet. Stayed in Cruz Bay Area which had great food (check out the Beach Bar). Stayed at this place called Coconut Coast Villas which was a short walk so was convenient and secluded but FYI one side faced a salt pond so plus side cool birds but yea...other side faces a beautiful bay yay! I loved all the northern beaches on St John, there was awesome snorkeling accessible from the beaches and turtles, since the island is mostly national parkland there are so many of them and weren't crowded - went end of May 2014. I will say if you do St. John especially on a budget, I'd recommend being okay renting a jeep and diy-ing it. I used the book St. John Feet, Fins and Four Wheel Drive and then ran into the author at a random art gallery when there. Apparently the Coral Bay side is very unplugged and laid back but I never made it out to that side. We love love loved St John, I hope you go there!!!
