Square tables and centerpieces

Erin Messenger, on June 14, 2009 at 10:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

I'm getting married in one year. Our venue a beautiful penthouse with great windows, a great view of the city and a large outdoor area, but the indoor portion is a bit challenging. I have a plan to drape the cafeteria style ceilings and I'm hoping to create enough interest in the rest of the decor that the ugly floors go unnoticed. I'm worried I'll overdo it though. I need some feedback before I get going.

First, I'm thinking about using 6 ft square (not rectangular) tables. I think it could be interesting. I'm also considering using both 6 ft square and round tables. Second, I'm thinking about having different centerpieces at each table. My colors are red and aqua so obviously I want to keep the colors consistent but I think it would be neat for each table to be a bit different. For example, I would like to have mismatched vases with different flower arrangements on some and non-floral arrangements on others. Does anyone have any thoughts on these ideas? Thanks!

I like the idea of variety and various shapes etc. My only input would be make sure it doesn't look too "busy" I have seen this done before and sometimes it can be overwhelming. Like you said make sure to use consistent colors and have fun with it!

If it were me, I would use different shapes for different tables. I love the idea of a square table with different shaped vases or candle holders Smiley smile

    Neat idea. Good luck.

I think different centerpieces is a great idea, it creates interest and looks great- in my opinionSmiley smile One thing I'm not sure you've thought of is whether people will be able to talk around the square tables. I've been to weddings with both square and rectangular tables and both times we had a hard time having conversations with others at the table.

Hopefully that helps,... and I don't think anyone will notice the floors, have you noticed the floor at the weddings you go to? Smiley smile

    Hi Erin -

You are certainly on the right track using variations in tables and centerpieces to take everyone's eyes off the floor. If you are going to drape the ceiling, but certain to include twinkle lighting. Another idea would be to do uplighting on the walls in your colors. Keep the room as dark as possible with lots of candles or LED lighting.

Where's this cool penthouse anyway? Sounds like a cool venue. Good luck with your plans.

Thanks for everyones thoughts. I definitely want to use twinkle lighting with the ceiling draping and I've also been talking to an entertainment company about uplighting in various places as well.

This venue is in Boise, Idaho. It's called the C.W. Moore Plaza. (www.cwmooreplaza.com). There are some pics on their website although I don't think any of them went to the extent I plan to with decorations. I've seen some pics of this venue from a wedding design company called Bliss that align a bit more with my ideas.

They are google-able as well Smiley winking

Thanks for the thoughts. And no, I can't say I've ever noticed the floor at a weddingSmiley smile

Sounds lovely - I would also consiter the height of the centerpieces. Use both high & low to add movement to the room (and distract from the floor!)

I love when centerpieces aren't all exactly the same, it adds interest to each of the tables. I would reccomend picking 3-4 types of centerpieces and alternating them from table to table. If you use just 2 different types of tables them only choose 2 types of centerpieces and make all the square tables one kind and the round another. I've got lots of ideas for distracting the eye from the floors and would love to work with you on that. I give free brainstorming sessions, my way of throwing ideas at you, and I offer very affordable planning/coordination if you thought you'd might need me beyond just the inspiration. www.ajwevents.net

I agree, mixing it up will keep the eye above the floor. One of the ways to help minimize the "business" is to use different containers shape and size but maintain the material type consistently. Examples would be all different types of antique silver containers (a great way to obtain these is to borrow from various family members), differents sized cube shaped glass or cylinders. You can even dedicate some tables to all aqua and some to all red to increase your theme. I would also make sure every table has candle light so you don't have a "dark spot" in the room.

    Hope it turns out amazing!!!
