Spring 2021 - things ok by then?

Maggie, on April 18, 2020 at 1:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 6

Hello ladies! My fiance and I just got engaged on March 8 - right before the world blew up. We're in NJ so everything is pretty much on lockdown because of the coronavirus. We have set a tentative date of March 20, 2021. We've been communicating with an all-inclusive venue for the past few weeks and they've put a soft hold on that date for us, but we don't feel comfortable booking it without being able to tour the place in person etc. Kinda hard to do with everything being closed. I know it's early still, but I've been having anxiety about planning anything because of how uncertain everything feels right now. Even with the date close to a year away, I'm just not sure that things will be back to "normal" by then. Is anyone else in a similar situation?

I think you will he fine. There are a lot of brides who are still getting married in a few months!

I'm in the same boat! Got engaged on March 2nd and planning an April 2021 wedding. We have a soft hold on our venue as well, because we haven't seen it in person. We are going forward and starting to book vendors, though!! Things should be a lot calmer next spring.

No one knows what will happen next spring, but I don't think you should just put your marriage on hold indefinitely. I'd read contracts very carefully and talk with all of your vendors about what their policy is for deposits, cancelations, and postponements.

I have the same worries also. We got engaged on March 14th, the weekend everything got flipped on its head in California here. I've tried to reach out to venders but have had very little luck with hearing back from any yet. Also not sure about your state but mine has halted giving out marriage licenses. So we might not be able to get legally married until further notice even if we heard back from the venue and other vendors.
If I was in your position I would really carefully read through the contract they gave out. Ask about thier policy on postponing the date if needed when things get closer to the reserved date. Find out if they need notice of say 30-90 days before the event, do you loose your down payment or does that go towards the new date? Things like that will help you decide if you should secure the date now or should wait until things are a little more stable.

We actually have a wedding booked for April 2021 and I’m about to send out save the dates but I don’t know what to do. I really don’t want to postpone but I really don’t want my wedding to be something I don’t want.

Hi! Our date is 3.27.21. We got engaged in July 2019 so I have basically done all of my planning! I’m still continuing on as normal. I have looked at all my contracts and they are all very flexible with transferring dates! We are holding off on lying things in full until closer to January 2021 to be on the safe side. It’s a scary time!! I feel bad worrying about 2021 when there are so many brides hurting this year but it’s hard not too! Really how things go to fall/winter brides will give us an idea of what to expect for early 2021.
