Spring 2020 honeymooners are u canceling due to coronavirus?

Monica, on March 6, 2020 at 10:47 PM Posted in Honeymoon 2 33
For those of you traveling internationally, did you buy travel insurance or are you canceling due to the coronavirus?

My mom just made me supperrr upset right now. My mom is a retired nurse and I specifically asked her before I purchased our honeymoon bundle if I should buy travel insurance beverage of the virus and she said no. Right now we were talking and i told her my in laws said we should cancel our honeymoon. My mom said “yes you should”.
I said whaaaatt??? mom!! I just bought the package last week you said No dont buy the travel insurance. Thats 2,000 gone if we cancel. She said no the government will refund you. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ Mom there are no travel restrictions to Mexico. The government is not going give me my money if I cancel! (FYI we are going to puerto vallarta mexico in April 28th thru May 2nd)

So im definitely not a medical professional but I have a science background and I understand the Corona virus is scary but honestly we would be okay. Theres no health advisories for traveling to Mexico. I understand traveling in general puts you at higher risk to contract an illness. The media only tells us the virus is spreading and people are dying.
They aren’t telling us what percentage of people were already sick with preexisting conditions, if their age contributed to their death, if they contracted pneumonia because coronavirus is a respiratory virus, and they died because of pneumonia. They aren’t telling us what percentage of people are Actually Recovering From The Virus Like Its A normal Flu (influenza virus). Everyone is freaking out. Its scary. Yes it is. But lets think about how many die EVERY YEAR from the NORMAL YEARLY FLU (Influenza virus). This coronavirus is no where near the numbers of the regular flu.
Lets be safe & healthy and cautious and we will be okay. Some family members of mine just freak out instead of looking at a different way. His parents are making him freak out and im just like AHHHHH. We need to have a serious talk.

I canceled my honeymoon but we were going to Singapore and Japan so that’s a different story. I don’t think you should cancel since there are no restrictions for Mexico. Just practice good hand hygiene, try not to touch your face.

We have a honeymoon to Northern Italy planned for July and we won’t cancel unless there’s a travel ban. We don’t have trip insurance either and would lose a lot of money since we’re taking my parents as well. Hopefully the hysteria dissipates soon and they get a handle on it. I say go!

Yeah, we're keeping a close eye on the news. Our plans our Hawaii from April 6th to April 16, so not as scenic but still travelling. Rn we're not planning on cancelling, but we talked about it. Hoping people don't ditch the wedding because of it either. I say do what you feel is best for you guys- I'm not sure we can live our lives in fear of getting sick.

We are keeping our plans for now. Look into seeing if your trip is refundable or creditable. You may be able to get flights refunded, not sure about the resort. It doesn't hurt to look into it, even without the travel insurance.

I am a doctor and agree with your stance on coronavirus and the flu. I think we need to be cautious but not crazy. I think you should be fine if you do not have medical conditions and are healthy and just going to Mexico. We are going on a Caribbean cruise and waiting to see what happens but Royal Caribbean has a policy out now that they will refund if we cancel up to 48 hours before so I will make a decision in April.

Italy is a level 4 travel restriction which means you absolutely shouldn’t travel there, especially northern Italy where all of the outbreaks are happening. I think you should revisit this. Most airlines are giving full refunds.

I’ve plans in May to Seattle and I’m eyeing it. Haven’t cancelled it yet but I’m giving it time til end of the month at least but for you it should be fine. I think it’s ok to still travel as long as it’s not to places with the travel advisories not to go obviously

We’re in Turks & Caicos right now for our honeymoon! We obviously didn’t cancel, and TCI hasn’t had any reports of Coronavirus here so we’ve felt perfectly fine being here. The only way we would’ve considered canceling was if we had decided to go to a country with a large outbreak of the Coronavirus.

If you were going to Italy or Asia, I would cancel. Mexico has like 2 cases or something small that that. As long as there isn't a travel restriction in place, I would precede as normal!

I hear ya! We're going to Italy in May & most of our stuff was booked MONTHS ago & we'd lose sooooo much money if we cancel! I'm really way more anxious about the honeymoon more than the actual wedding

Listen. I think you should stick to your honeymoon plans and just go. My fiancee just went on a brother trip to vegas for a long weekend, and I was really nervous about it. Everyone that went on the trip is fine and had a great time. In addition, my sister just had to take my niece to Florida for a cheerleading completion. Everything turned out perfect!

If you are concerned, take precautions. Wear masks and gloves. But ultimately, if this was your best friend asking you this, what do you think you would be telling her!? By the end of April, this whole "virus" thing might already be over and done with.

Just stick to your plan, and if you are still worried when it's closer to leaving for the trip, cancel it if that is your gut feeling. I am sure you'll get some money from your wedding to compensate your lose.

Take time to weigh your options!

We cruise on 04/12 and our TA advised us NOT to cancel. Princess cruises has been giving a very nice compensation to those who they have had to cancel.

Definitely NOT wanting to cancel. Our trip is literally only THREE full days. The other 2days are cut short because of travel. We will definitely be cautious and Washing our hands and taking hand sanitizer
