Spraying glitter on a dress

Genesis, on December 4, 2018 at 8:13 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 17
I am completely heartbroken. I bought a dress two months ago and tried it on today and was bawling... I dont like it... I bought it because I was being pressured and rushed... I always wanted a glittery tulle and it does not have in and that is so important to me... it doesn’t even have sleeves so I want to at least have the tulle I want. Has anyone used spray glitter or fabric glitter in their dress??

I am so sorry to hear you hate your dress!! Would they accept a return/exchange?! If not, Have you thought about asking a seamstress to make a skirt overlay with glittery tulle? It’s hard to say if that would work without seeing your specific dress, but a good seamstrsss could definitely add an overskirt and sleeves!

This is the dress! The top part is not secured on me because it needs to be altered (it’s being altered right now) and the seamstress was already frustrated with me by the fact I needed it by December 22. I feel bad for asking her to do more. She goes on vacation next week so she needs to give it to me on Monday

What about looking for an overshirt to get the sleeved look you want?

That is pretty. I would not try to spray glitter it. If it does not turn out you will be buying off the rack and not being able to get it altered. I like the sleeves thing. I think the dress is super pretty.

Get similar fabric and test. Test on under layers, from the inside.

G et fabric spray glitter and just do it, in good light, start near the hem on a side to get technique down, and do light layers, letting dry between.

FIRST, your dress is beautiful and it looks great on you!

That said, if you don't like your dress, Whitney totally has it right. I would go buy a chiffon fabric at a local store while you're at it and test it, make sure you like it.

Last, agree with PP, you can always purchase a jacket/ wrap/ dress topper. David's bridal has them you could probably buy and try on with the dress: https://www.davidsbridal.com/accessories/jackets-and-wraps#dbi

I am sorry that you don't love your dress. It does look really nice on you though!

I would be scared to spray it with glitter without trying it on similar fabric first. I would be scared it would discolor the fabric. Can you get some tulle and try it first?

I'm sorry to read that you're unhappy. No bride should feel that way. I agree with the idea of spraying it fabric like it first to test. I know you wanted sleeves, what about getting some glittery tulle fabric and either wearing like a shawl or wrapping it around your shoulders to imitate cap sleeves and them having someone tie it behind your back in a bow?

I think that glitter would take away from this beautiful bodice that highlights your frame perfectly.

Do you have an idea of what fabric spray would be good for a wedding dress? I have a dress too that I want to add glitter to, but don't know what to use.

You could also have your seamstress take small rhinestones and scatter them in the tulle for a subtle sparkle.

I've used spray glitter before effort cosplay. First it is really messy. The glitter will shed after drying. Also it might stick to the other layers and look uneven and flat.

You can buy glitter tulle and see if the tailor can add it to the dress.

Don’t know if you can tell from the pics, but we sprayed my sisters Dress with gold glitter fabric spray. The first pic is without. It works if you just want a touch of glitter. If you aren’t ready to buy a new dress I would try the glitter.
