Spray Painted/ombre Dress

Danielle, on July 25, 2018 at 1:41 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 27

Has anyone ever done this? I have seen Taylor Ann Art (love her) but she isn't taking orders and I'm sure its $1000+ anyways.

I ordered a sample dress and I'm going to attempt to spray it ombre myself - blue/teal/purple. I watched a lady in the UK do it to a dress in her backyard and I *think* I can do it.

Anyone ever try it? I love the look!

I've never done it but, I'd definitely recommend practicing the look on a similar fabric before using the real dress just in case it doesn't turn out how you envision. I can imagine that would be a pricey mistake.

I'm worried the spray paint will make the fabric stiff and heavy. Perhaps you could dip dye the dress instead but, again it would depend on the material (as synthetics won't dye as well as cotton).

I ordered a sample dress to try it on - silk and tulle. And as recommended by the woman who did her dress she used floral spray paint that's meant to be used on flowers (and dosent stiff as much).

I cant get the look out of my mind, every dress I see/try I think "that would look even better with the ombre at the bottom".

    Wish me luck!

Hi Danielle! Welcome to WeddingWire and congrats on your engagement! Smiley heart

I also love this ombre look. Smiley heart

Definitely daring but if you've got a good eye and a steady hand, I'd say go for it!

I agree with Happy Hedgie (PC), practicing on a similar fabric beforehand might be a good idea, just in case. That way, you can see how the fabric reacts to the spray paint, given the material.

Out of curiosity, are you wanting the colors to fade from blue to teal to purple? Or are you mixing these three colors so it fades from your shade of white to this hue? Smiley smile If you have any inspiration pics or sketches, we'd love to see!

Thank you! This is my inspiration as I fell in love with the look (but my dress is different, no lace at the bottom). Same colors except a slightly lighter blue!

Thanks for the encouragement Smiley smile

Hello. I have been searching for airbrush help for two months. I want to do a galaxy on my dress. I would be SO grateful if you could advise what paints you used and if you had any trouble with them running or washing out. Trash the dress on a glacier after wedding. Don’t want paint to come out. And pics of you in your dress would be so awesome. Pretty please. ***********@*****.***. Thanks Wendy

    Spray Painted/ombre Dress 2
This is what I am looking to replicate. I have gotten a few dresses from FB Marketplace and LetGo for less than 50.00 to practice before trying on my dress.
