Spray paint will change the texture of the dress a lot...and it's going to need to air out a long time. Have you looked into fabric dye if you insist on doing it yourself? Do you have a backup plan if it turns out really bad?

I would not do this. Wedding dresses are already expensive to run the chance of ruining it with spray paint? Noooo.

Take it to a pro and see what they can do.

Yeah, I agree with taking it somewhere and having it professionally done...

I have watched videos online and they use florist paint as it doesn't dry the dress out or go stiff, I cant be the only person to attempt this.....

I agree with others this sounds possibly risky, but if you're committed to try it, I'd go to a thrift store and try to find an old wedding gown really cheap and practice on it before trying it on the real thing.

    This is awesome.

Is this pre not post wedding I assume?

If it does go wrong (hopefully not) can you afford to buy a new dress?

Have you checked into professionals? Maybe they aren't as expensive as you might think?

If you are sertain, go for it! This could be very cool and I totally want to see pictures!!

Thanks, I haven't done it yet! I have a dress that a bought second hand so its not a huge deal if it goes wrong, although I have a very colourful wedding planned and various different colours in my hair, so the colouring doesn't really bother me, it more that the fabric stays wearable, I'll post a pic when its done :-)

If you already have your dress, what type of material is it made of?

Unless it is cotton or silk (natural fabrics), it will not take up the dye properly. Artificial fabrics are very difficult to dye, and you could mess up your dress.

Two options that I think are better:

    1. Consult a professional to do this. I was in contact with a woman in NC who does dip-dye, and she can mail items back and forth. She takes a sample of your fabric, and tests it to see how it picks up the dye. Her company is RCB Fashion. I decided against it due to price.

    2. Order an over-skirt made of thin cotton/lace that can be dyed (or one that is pre-dyed from etsy), and attach it as the outermost layer of your dress.

    Hi Roisin,

I used oasis spray paint after watching the video below, I copied pretty much what she did. I tested it first on some similar material bought from a charity shop, a blouse and a net curtain, then just went for it. The material does stiffen slightly but I read alot about the different paints and these was the best ones also it doesn't stiffen enough for me to not do this, the benefits really do outweigh the stiffening. I have lots of photos I just can't seem to add them, im happy to email them to you my email address is ****************@*******.*** if you want to contact me directly.

    Hi Caitlin,

I tried it out on some similar material as well, my mum actually found me a silk shirt and some net curtain in a charity shop to test on and it worked really well, so I bit the bullet and went straight to my dress, it was a little nerve racking but its really worth it no one else will have a dress like you and its a great sense of achievement to have created something yourself, if you have any questions about mine please ask :-)

    Hey Sarah,
I don't know if you still check up on this but I'm getting married in 2021 and I'm so scared but excited to try this~ I'm wondering how much the paints cost you, how many you got and how long it took?

I’m glad to see you went through with it. I admire your courage. It must’ve been beautiful. I want to paint my MOB dress. It’s three layers. Lining, tulle and lace overlay. All of it polyester. How did your dress turn out? Was it stiff? Did it wear off? Did it have paint fumes? What kind of paint did you use?
