Spouses in the bridal party

Amanda, on March 21, 2020 at 11:26 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 1 13
Hello!
Two of my best friends are married and I would like each of them to be a member of my bridal party. Husband being my man of honor and his wife being a bridesmaid. Is there anyone who has had couples in the bridal party or groom party? My family is reacting as if I’ve committed an atrocity at the idea of having a couple in my bridal party instead of picking only one of them.
Thank you.

I think if you’re close to both of them I don’t see why not

My sister in law is getting married soon and both my husband (it's his sister) and I are in the wedding party on her side. Why is your family so upset by this? Is it the fact it's a couple or because you have mixed genders?

I think it’s sweet. I genuinely do not see the issue.

We have 2 couples in my bridal party...both my maid of honors fiancé and my matron of honors husband. My fiancé actually preferred couples to be in the bridal party because he didn’t want people’s significant others feeling left out!

My brother was my bride's man and his wife was one of my bridesmaid. One of my other bridesmaids is married to one of the groomsman. No one thought it was weird that we had two couples in our wedding. I think your family is completely wrong.

My husband and I had 2 married couples in our wedding. My husband's cousin and his wife and my husband's sister and her husband. I don't see an issue with it as long as you and your future spouse get along with all parties and want them in your wedding party. Having those 2 married couples in our wedding was not even a question for us. We knew going into our wedding we wanted them in it. We did keep it to where they walked with each other because we didn't want to make it awkward for them.

That's an odd thing for anyone to get upset over. We have at least one couple in our wedding party, though all the rest are only one half of a couple.

Thank you all so much. I definitely feel much more confident and reassured in my decision! I am not 100% sure why my family had such a strong reaction to this I'm guessing because of the mixed gender and their couple status. My family is definitely more traditional and southern if that tells you anything LOL Smiley laugh . A lot of aspects of my wedding they've not experienced before.
