Spotify or Apple Music?

What's better for building a playlist for the reception: Spotify or Apple Music? I have Pandora already and love it for discovering new music, but it's not conducive for creating my own list. Thanks!!

That's rich! You came here asking us, and then you say to stop giving advice....you got answers, you didn't want to hear them.

You really stated that your wedding is all about you and not about your guests? I think that's something you should inform them of, before they offer their time and money/gifts to you. That comment was rude & I surely wouldn't ever say that about my guests.

And secondly, if you can't afford to properly host these guests, whether you care about them or not, you shouldn't be asking them to come. So the choices here would be to elope and not have any guests, or do the right thing and do whatever it takes to host them properly, even if it means pushing your date back. That's a logical reason for pushing the date back, in my opinion.

    ETA: Words.

Woah OP! Why the abrasiveness? You came to the internet for advice. You were given good advice...Now you want to say 'keep your opinions to yourself?' honestly...WW can be a great place, but you get out of it what you put into it.

Since you really don't seem to care how your guests feel during your wedding, why don't you both just elope? Would save yourselves & everyone else the trouble of attending an event the bride & groom can't bother to properly host, anyway.

OP Grace, the wedding IS about your guests, not you, otherwise you should be eloping. This is sad. $7k is a much larger budget then many many people on wedding wire, it's not limited and you could definitely host a smaller guest list properly on that. You are choosing not to. Hire a dj. I'm sure you can find one on thumbtack at least for a few hundred dollars.

Wow again!! My budget is 6k and yes I did go over about $500 and FH is paying for everything by him self. Budget covered everything for us to properly host 50-60 ppl.

I'll answer the question you asked. I've had both Apple and Spotify and I love Spotify

If you were a wedding planner then you should know the level of detail and sacrifices people make to host their guests properly. News flash, cut the hotel room and go home instead. It'll save you a good chunk of your budget.

I prefer Apple Music and have found that it has fewer issues than Spotify - I also think it has more of a selection as a lot of artists have recently taken their music off of Spotify.

I am a huge spotify fan--for playlists in my car. For a wedding? DJ. I cannot stress this enough. Cut other things off the budget and hire a professional DJ. This will make or break a wedding.

Additionally, if I came to a wedding and went through the trouble of getting to the wedding, spending money on a gift, getting a dress and attending a wedding, I would be pretty upset to find no DJ.

If your wedding isn't about your guests then you should elope. That would be like someone asking you to come over for dinner and only serving things you are allergic to.

    Hire a damn DJ.

Hire a dj. The atmosphere of your wedding will be completely different with diy music. Prepare for people to leave early. You can't use the excuse you're paying for your own wedding because the majority of us are. The reception is a thank you for the guests for attending your ceremony so no it's not about you.

Budget aside: I decided that we didn't want a DJ because with our crowd, it wasn't necessary. We used playlists that we made. I just want to be honest and tell you that while my wedding was awesome, I 100% regret not hiring a DJ, or at least someone to "emcee". This playlist DIY stuff was the one thing that caused the most issues and problems and stress. Hire someone. Cut something else from the budget (not anything that affects guest comfort - some decor maybe) and make room for this.

ETA just re-read the comments and I see that you're one of those "it's MY day"ers. So, you'll probably just do whatever you want. Take my advice or leave it Smiley smile

I am using Spotify. FH and I are having a brunch reception and don't plan on any dancing. It is just family and our bridal party and we don't have anyone that we expect to dance. We just want background music for our short reception. Our venue does provide speakers.

Spotify premium is like $10/month and you could cancel after the wedding

I will actually answer your question unlike the others with smart remarks.

Apple Music is amazing. They're up to date and I enjoy using it. My FH uses Spotify. lol basically they're both good and will get the job done. I know Apple music allows you to make a playlist!

    I hope that helps! <3

I understand wanted to save money somewhere and all of the blogs about "How to have a wedding for under 5K" tell you to use an app but I just wanted to add my experience of going to a wedding last year where this was done and there were a few common hiccups. They used Pandora and put one of their adult children in charge. Well their adult child was a guest so he was drinking and was mingling so some songs doubled up even though it was on Shuffle. There were a few times the ipad lost Wifi signal because quite a few people were on the network for the wedding and then lastly, probably the worse, there was not flow to the music. There was always a 30 second pause or so between songs so everyone would stop dancing and listen to what the next song would be. Oh and there was also a few times where 2-4 slow songs came on at the same time.

I am not saying you can't do it, you definitely can, I heard spotify actually has a setting where it overlaps the end of one song and beginning of another so it has better flow but just from what you stated, if your budget is 7K (my overall budget is 8K so I am not far from you), you should put aside $700 for the DJ at least. Technically, you don't need a hotel room the night of if you are having it locally so you can save money there, and then you also said you have a few hundred dollars at the most to spend.

Have you check Thumbtack for new pros that are trying to build their clientele?

You're a real gem, aren't you? We DJed our own wedding with the help of a friend and it turned out amazing - he was more than willing to lend a helping hand, as good friends usually are.
