Has anyone created their own wedding playlist and had friends man it for the reception, instead of hiring a dj? How did you do that...did you pay your friend? Did you ask a few if they would be willing to take turns so that they enjoy the party? Any tips on this? No "just hire a DJ" comments,...

We did but we had a small wedding- we only had 35 guests and venue staff helped man my husband's phone :-) *** Btw, we didn't have dancing, since there was only 37 of us, we had a celebratory dinner following our ceremony. We only used Spotify for our entrances and recessional walk. ***

TT will get you rank beginners, people who can't fill their calendars any other way, and the first five people who will pay to bid on your job.

FH and I considered this at first but was able to find one for $550 for 6 hours. We had different playlist lust for each part of the wedding but didn't want to deal with possible technical failures or tasking a guest with operating the music since we want them to enjoy the evening too. Although we've hired a DJ we have kept our spotify as a backup just in case something goes wrong. Hope it works out for you. Blessings

I understand the impulse to do a "Spotify" DJ because of cost. If you do this be sure your DOC is very social, well spoken, and willing to MC your event. Also, have your DOC handle the "hitting play" it's hard to say no to a bride and a lot of pressure to do it right. The DOC will be a professional about it.

Please consider hiring a DJ. Ive been to three weddings where they've done this and the bridal party were the only ones dancing. It was basically just the bride and groom choosing random songs and there was no adjusting for requests or "reading the room".

Also, Spotify can't take requests from guests, which is pretty much necessary if you want people to dance. And, trying to get requests before the wedding won't work because people won't think of a song beforehand.

    Hire a DJ.

I've seen it done, but it doesn't get the crowd going as much as a DJ would. The DJ does more than play the music, they really coordinate and run the reception post dinner. I think its worth every oenny

We did it and it worked perfectly - had a group of friends taking it in turns to watch over the playlist and they loved it, the dancefloor was full all night and they all had a hand in picking songs which they loved. My husband and his friends are SUPER into their music though so I think that's why it worked so well, I wouldn't have asked just anyone to do it.
