Spoiling Surprises

Stephanie, on December 22, 2017 at 9:02 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 11
I’m finding that I have a knack for ruining when people are trying to surprise me. My cousin’s wife, one of my bridesmaids, offered to gift us an engagement shoot as she has a photography business of her own and we wouldn’t have gotten them otherwise. I decided to get one of FH’s favorite pictures printed, but totally forgot that my BM’s watermark would be on the picture until after the fact. I texted her to see if she could send me the original, then asked about a pose she hasn’t released yet on fb, hoping to surprise FH with it. Evidently, she was planning on presenting us with all of the finished pictures in gift form for Christmas, including letting us see the pose before it was public. Because she did it for free, there was no timeline for when these pictures would be released, so I totally blew it. 😅

I did something similar with FH trying to surprise me with tickets to an Orioles game for my birthday a few months ago. I’m finding that I need to stop asking questions about anything, because that’s when surprises are ruined.

Anyone else have this gift?

Haha, I tend to ask a lot of questions and be inquisitive too, so it happens to me as well. Oh well, just gotta roll with it Smiley winking

I personally hate surprises. Or rather, I hate knowing there is a surprise and not knowing what it is. So in those instances, yes. I’m a total surprise kill. However it does seem like whenever I don’t actually know, I end up spoiling it anyways. You’re not alone!

Totally me, but generally with gifts. Someone could find the perfect gift for me that I’ve never mentioned nor ever knew about, I’ll find it, then buy it for myself. People hate buying me things lol

Aw, that sucks! It’s the thought that counts at least! You can’t blame yourself, it doesn’t sound intentional!

Me. I knew my FH was going to propose before he actually did. I accidentally saw a text to his daughter, and then they were acting weird one day, so I knew it was about to happen. I still cried when it happened, but I'm kind a disappointed in myself for figuring it out before hand. Also, I hate surprises, but this one i kinda would have liked.

Yes. But it doesn't help FH can't keep a secret either so he's easy to crack. Smiley laugh

Yeah, I'm very bad at figuring out suprises and my gift even extends to presents. And actually to other events as well. I had a friend tell me in college she had something happening and couldn't go out with me one night and I was like "why? Are you in driver reform school or something" and she was really embarrassed about it but was like "actually, yes". Whoops.

Whenever my FH or parents buys me anything I can always guess what it is. I don't really do it on purpose. Most recently my FH had a "suprise" sent to my house. He went to the mailbox and brought it in the house and all I saw was a large brown envelope and I said "ooh I hope this is nerd wax". He was so mad. Basically dropped it off on the front table and sat on the couch and told me its not fun when I try to guess my gifts.

I opened a package thinking it may have been a late wedding gift since it came from the store where we registered. It's a purse my husband was trying to surprise me with. 🤦🏻‍♀️

I can't stand surprises, so much so that when I turned 16 my mom was thinking about throwing me a surprise party and before I even knew that I told her, "If you do, I will walk in, be surprised, and turn around and walk right back out." I helped FH plan his official "proposal" and then it was awkward whenever people asked if I knew it was coming... We're also terrible at keeping secrets from one another, he wasn't going to show me pictures of my ring before the proposal and that failed. I wasn't going to show him pictures of my dress, and that failed miserably.
