Splitting honeymoon into two one week trips?

G, on December 18, 2019 at 7:40 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 4
Hello! Has anyone done this? We want to go to the Caribbean and island hop except the two places we want to go to don't have easy flight options in between leaving us with a 16 hour layover in Miami. Furthermore, we're getting married in the winter and one of the resorts we are eyeing is significantly cheaper in the spring. We'd still do a week after the wedding and then another week two months later. Does anyone have experience with this? My only hesitation is we've never taken two weeks off together and may never have another chance! We both are slaves to corporate NYC and even though we earn or vacation time the culture very much is you never take two or more weeks off in a row UNLESS it's you're honeymoon. I'm worried we'll regret not disconnecting for two weeks. Do we suck up the layover and extra cost?

Our wedding is over a year away so we have plenty of time to decide! We promised to pause wedding planning until after the holidays but I can't help but daydream about a warm honeymoon during this cold northeast winter.

If you think this will be your only chance to have 2 weeks off together, you could use a week on your honeymoon, then spend a week decompressing at home together. I am sure after all the planning, then the wedding, then traveling for the honeymoon, you both will welcome a calm week together just to relax - sleep in, enjoy coffee in your PJs together, etc. then you could always take the other trip a little while later (Or even the following spring as a late 1 year anniversary) Or, if you really want to spend two whole weeks in a tropical environment, you could always just suck it up and deal with the layover. luckily, it will be in a fun place like Miami with lots of things to keep you both busy, instead of North Dakota or something LOL and at the end of the layover, you will have a beautiful beach to relax and recover on! Either way, I say take advantage of the two weeks off together in some form!

Definitely do the the two week honeymoon! So worth it in my book! I have a stressful job and it was so awesome to just be with my husband, relax, and just get away for that length of time. I felt so recharged and energized!

    Hey there!!

How exciting to be planning your honeymoon! At the end of the day, this will entirely depend on what you and your FS want and can afford. Of course, it would be wonderful to be able to spend two weeks on vacation with each other but you mentioned that it may be considerately more expensive. Do you think you can plan the two-week vacation comfortable with your budget? If so, I think it would be a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of.

Chrysta made a great point that if you wanted to go on vacation to the Caribbean for a week, then you could spend a week at home together relaxing. That sounds like wonderful time to spend together.

Where are you island hopping to? Another option is doing a 7 day cruise that does island hopping too. Another option if those islands are hard to get to then maybe throw in a 3rd more easily accessible island and then transfer to the other 2.
