SPINOFF: Ribbon wands after ceremony?

Michelle, on April 12, 2015 at 2:07 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3

So thanks to FutureMrsW I have now discovered ribbon wands! I really like the idea of them and they seem really easy to DIY. That got me thinking about our send off which I had not considered until today. Our reception venue does not have a good location for everyone to line up in "send off fashion" so I think it makes more sense for us to do it at the ceremony venue right after we are pronounced. The only thing I'm worried about is that we are already planning on doing fan style programs. If we give everyone a fan style program AND a ribbon wand is that overkill/too many things to hold and keep up with? Another idea I had was to give ribbon wands only to the people on the center end where we will be walking by. Maybe attach it to the chair with a little sign? It could be aisle decoration for the first part of the ceremony and then send off decor for the end.

I don't know! Anyone have any ideas?

This is tough... I've struggled with precisely the same thing, because we'll be having a barn BBQ type reception, and there's no big grand 'exit' at the end. I love the ribbon wands - Save-On-Crafts has hand-made ivory ones (made in the US, and they even look hand-made), which may be more time/cost effective for you if you're not doing them for everyone.

As to whether you should have just the end of the rows do it... If you are someone at the end of the row, I'd interpret the message to mean "We think it would be cool to have a photo of us coming down the aisle with these ribbon wands waving". There's no way you can give them to just the end of aisle people *and have it mean the same thing, IMO,* as giving them to everyone does.

In the end, I thought back to my brother's wedding, and they left through a gauntlet of neon sticks waving. There is precisely ONE photo of this in their wedding album. They spent around $100 on the wands, and they just ended up getting thrown away.

In other words, it was a fleeting moment, and rather than wracking your brain to figure out how to make the wands work, it's totally okay to let people just clap as you are presented to the guests after the ceremony and recess down the aisle, and put the money and time into something else, like a spa treatment for yourself on your honeymoon Smiley winking

    Just my $.02....

I am making ours and plan on giving them to everyone. I do think it might be a little much to hold both wands and fans though. I'm glad you brought that up too bc I was contemplating fans. Smiley smile If you are going to make the wands BB Crafts and Fuzzy Fabric have awesome satin ribbon for super cheap just fyi.
