Spinoff: Getting married before your older siblings?

FutureMrsWalton, on April 1, 2015 at 2:20 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

Just curious. I'm the second daughter in my family. Everyone expected my sister to get married first and she has even been dating her bf almost a year longer than me and my FH. I was nervous about how she would react when I told her we were engaged, knowing her personality. However; it was silly for me to be nervous because she is so happy for me!

Anyone else?

I'm the last in my family to get married, but this is how we went: I have 3 sisters, 2 older and 1 younger. Sister #2 got married, then Sister #1, then my baby sister, and now finally me.

Not in order at all, I don't think it matters.

Nope. I have 3 older brothers. 2 have already been married & divorced, one more than three times. My oldest brother is only 30.

As you can see, I'm getting married this year. I've never been married before.

My only sibling is my sister who is two years younger than I am. She got married in 2004 (or maybe 2003.....).

Let me tell you, there's nothing less fun than not being able to find a date to your younger sister's wedding.

Well...maybe there's nothing less fun that not being able to find a date to your younger sister's wedding and then having the photographer assume your creepy uncle is your date.

Although overhearing my sister thanking my parents for paying for her wedding and saying she didn't realize that they'd saved wedding funds for her and I and then hearing our dad say that they actually only saved one for her because nobody would ever marry me... that's not something you get over.

I'm glad your older sister is in a better position than I was!

I have one TWIN sister (same age) she has been married twice! She has been with her current husband for over a decade! My soon to be step-sister is already married and she is about 5 yrs younger than me. I have only met her twice, not sure of her exact age. She will be my step-sister on May 15th! I'm more excited for my mom's JP wedding than I am my own! And I wasn't even invited to the JP..lol

ETA: Oh and this will be my 1st marriage, I have never been married before.

My sister is 3 years younger than I am and she got married 7 years ago. I was single at the time with no prospects but honestly, I wasn't jealous of her at all. I looked at it like if all I wanted was the wedding, I could probably hunt down some guy to marry but it wouldn't be someone that I was happy with or cared about. I was content to wait and find the right person to marry. I was her maid of honor and I went to that wedding without a date but I looked at it like a big family event so it didn't even cross my mind that I would need one.

Now, had I been in purplekitten's position and overheard my dad say something like that, all the joy would have been sucked out of the day. That's a crappy thing to say about anyone, let alone your own daughter.

We were engaged not long after my elder sister (10 year gap between us) got engaged to her lady, but since they had some issues in the last few years, we'll probably be married before them. Sis is okay with it, she's actually the MOH at mine.

The whole reason we changed our minds from a 2 year engagement, to our 10 year anniversary, was because they had a lot of saving/planning done and were meant to be getting married at the start of next year. She said she wasn't fussed but I didn't want to tread on her toes.

We were in no hurry, we'd already been together far longer than my parents/their new fiances, either sibling and their respective partner and even FMIL and her new husband. What was a few extra years.

I have a younger sister (about 13 months younger than I) who was dating her bf for less amount of time that I was. She got engaged this past July, and I got engaged this past December. It did annoy me a bit that she got engaged before me, but it mainly had to do with our relationship. We tend to get on each other's nerves a lot, and her motives were more towards being able to say she got engaged before me, therefore had a better relationship than me. Eh, I'm happy for her regardless though. And I got over it.

Nope, I am the oldest of 6. I will say though my oldest brother and his gf have been together longer than FH and I, she is a year older than me, and they live together (we don't), and she has a child (from a previous relationship) which he raises on the daily basis, and who calls him daddy. Last year we were kind of pressuring him. But I do think me getting engaged recently pushed his off. Not sure I hadn't heard any plans but I think it did.

Yes, my oldest brother is not married yet. He was engaged for 7 years but they broke it off, he said he's going to live the Leonardo DiCaprio bachelor life forever lol.

I'm the youngest of five, and will be the third to get married. My two older sisters got married a long time ago, and my two brothers are both single. I would actually be surprised if either of them ever got married.

I am the first to get married in my family. My brother is 3 years older than me, and he ALMOST got married about 2 years ago...ended up calling off the wedding about 3 months before. My little sister is 7 years younger than me (she is 15), so she is definitely not married yet lol

My FH is the youngest in his family. He has 3 older siblings. We had already been together for 5 years and starting talking about marriage. His 2 oldest siblings were already married. He told me he didn't want to get married before his older sister. She had already been with the guy for 10 years and just a few months ago had mentioned she didn't want to get married yet. I was very upset. I was so excited when she finally did get engaged and got married. Then, I knew it was only a matter of time for him to propose. He did 6 months later.

My younger sister just had a baby. Honestly I thought I would have been first, but I am excited and love the new baby.

My younger brother got married before I did--it was just very exciting. I knew that I would get my turn when the time was right.

I had thought when we were younger that I would be first only because I was always more mature and I think we all thought it would be me first. My brother met the perfect woman for him and got married in November 2013. I was very excited and very happy for them. FH and I had been together longer but we were not ready to get married yet. They were simply more settled and ready for marriage, I don't think it matters which sibling gets married first. It didn't bother me a bit. They now have a baby, and she was much anticipated but the entire family. I am really happy that he is happy and has a wonderful wife.

My baby brother got married in 2009. He was 26, 1 month before his 27th bday. I was 35 and my sister 33 at the time. My sister also was engaged once. All was good.

The only sourpuss was my dad's mom because her favorite granddaughters weren't engaged at the time. Everybody at the engagement party made a comment about her.
