Specifying Meals for Plated

Alyssa, on April 26, 2019 at 1:15 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11

Hi guys!

We have decided to go with a plated dinner. We will have three options, chicken, beef, and vegetarian and then a kids meal option as well. We have found name cards for the tables but we have not decided on how to specify on each name card what they have chosen to eat. Any suggestions? We are trying to stay away from the normal chicken, cow, plant, pictures!

Thanks!

If you don’t want to do stickers you can write the names in different colors and each color signifies a different entree. I would double check with your venue/caterer as well and ask if they have a preference. Ours wanted the sticker so it was easiest to see who gets what.

Check with the venue, you may not even need to do any of this. We went to a couple weddings where we had to pick a meal and then at the wedding someone who worked for the caterer cam around to each table took our names and what meal choice we had and then brought it out.

Depending on the name cards, we went to a wedding that had tented name cards and inside was a label with each meal choice that was chosen by each individual. Then the servers just came and wrote down how many meals of each selection they would need per table. It seemed to work very smoothly.

How about color-coding it? Maybe you can use different card colors for the different meal options. Or you can actually write the meal on the opposite side of the place card...

Check with your venue - they may have some really great tips, or may not need it! For us, we had a choice of chicken, vegetarian lasagna or a kids meal. When we gave them our escort cards to set up (so helpful that they did that!) I made a list - and each table I just wrote down how many of each entree there were. So like, Table 13: 7 chicken, 1 lasagna, 2 kids meals. They took it from there. Everyone got what they wanted and I didn't have to mark anything on the actual cards.

I went to a wedding one time where they put a different-colored gem-like picture depending on the meal. A red gem was for beef, I think green was vegetarian, but that's all I remember! It was pretty and simple.

    Exactly this!

I asked my venue planner how would they like me to advise meal selections and if I need to put their selection on our escort cards. He told me to just send a spreadsheet of everyone's selections along with their table numbers. I planned on doing this anyway so that's perfect.

Tiny round stickers that you find at Staples or even dollar tree. Red for beef❤️, yellow for chicken💛, green for veggie💚 and any color you choose for kids (ie. blue💙).

We offered two options: steak and vegetarian pasta. We decided which dish had the most RSVPs would be blank (less work for us). The pasta we put a colored gem sticker on the place card. Worked great!

We used these. Gold meant beef, green mean vegetarian, and white meant chicken. It just had their names on it.
