Specific Seating Question - Farm Tables

JuJuBee, on December 13, 2016 at 4:50 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

Table assignment question -

We have a mix of tables at our reception, some round, booths, rectangle etc. We will obviously be utilizing table assignments - but my question is how do I handle longer tables. We have a set of 6 & 3 rectangle tables that will make up one long farm table. I am seating social groups together at tables but there is some over lap, how to I handle this. Do I assign specific seats so for example the four guests that are sitting at say table 6 sit closer to table 5 and not table 7, which has people whom they don't know. Or do I just stick with assigning tables and whatever happens happens? Floor plan attached.

With a huge long table like this I would assign seats. I feel like assigning people to that big table has the same effect as not assigning seats at all. It'll be a melee of people trying to get seats together.

ETA: Rereading your post, does that big long table have separate numbers for each table that comprises the big one? If so, then I agree with Sarah. I thought the big table was just all one.

Katherine - yes the long table has individual table numbers for each of the smaller tables. So it's not just one large table, it's 6 smaller ones.

Ok! In that case, then I agree with Sarah, just assign people to each table. They can figure out where their friends are in proximity to them and adjust their seating accordingly when they get there.
