I’ve read in a wedding planning article that’s it supposed to be first dance then the parent dances. Can I do parent dances first then first dance? I had thought about starting with mother son then father daughter and towards the end my FH can cut in and our first dance will start playing. Our party starter song actually starts out slow then goes upbeat so I thought that would be a great transition from us slow dancing to dancing fun.

You could, but that would mean that your dance with your FS isn’t actually the first dance.

I mean I think the first dance is the first dance. But you could do the newlywed dance after your parents.

Tradition says the first dance is supposed to be you and your future husband, but honestly, it’s your wedding so there really are no rules you have to follow. Do whatever makes sense to you!

Hey Emily!!
As the pp’s mentioned, traditionally the very first dance is the newlyweds dance, followed by the parents dance.
That being said, if you would prefer to do it in a different order, there is no reason why you can’t. It’s your wedding and you should do it the way that you and your FH want!
What song have you chosen for your newlywed dance?

We (or I) chose I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing by Aerosmith. I’m a HUGE Aerosmith fan and had always dreamt for that song to be in my wedding. Luckily, my FH happily agreed for it to be our first dance song. ❤️
