Sparklers alternative

We aren't doing a reception send off, but we are doing a ceremony "send off" with mini beach balls. You could use glow sticks instead of sparklers - they photograph pretty nicely.

ETA: never mind saw its in the dark hmmm.... I'd say glow sticks or those fiber optic wands that change color

I always love bubbles. And if you get a talented photographer, it makes for a really gorgeous photo.

We're using glow sticks! Something like this, but I only ordered them in our wedding colors (red, orange, and yellow).

I saw an idea to use dried flower petals so we're planning on doing that. Not sure what your venue is like but ours is outdoors so it's super convenient because it doesn't have to be cleaned up! Even if yours is indoors though it could be pretty =] I also second the bubbles idea! That sounds so cute.
