Sparkler Sendoff?

Ceelie , on August 9, 2019 at 9:49 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 12

So we want to do a sparkler sendoff for our wedding, but I've always wondered how that's executed? How does everyone get their sparkler lit around the same time? Because they don't last very long.. and I really want to get a few pictures of us exiting under the sparklers. Ideas??

My cousin did one in May. First of all, they get super super long sparklers. Gigantic. Everyone lined up and once the lighting started, it was super quick because everyone just lit each other's sparkler. I would definitely recommend the longest sparklers you could find.

That's a good call! I'll definitely track down some larger sparklers and see what I can find. Thank you!

No problem. These lasted well through the lighting and the send off. I think they were about 2 or 3 feet long.

Everything I’ve read has recommended 3ft sparklers, so that’s what we’re going with. We have a few lighters, but I imagine It wouldn’t take long once the first few are lit.

I went to a wedding a year or two ago that did a sparkler sendoff, and they had normal length sparklers - like one foot long maybe. They had everyone grab one as they left the reception area and lined up outside, and I'm not sure if it was intentional or not (I think there were a fair number of smokers), but there were a decent amount of people with lighters scattered among the crowd who helped light them. There was also at least one groomsman who walked down one side of the aisle lighting like every third one, and then the people next to them could light theirs from the first. I think if sent your bridal party out with lighters and you're ready to go as soon as they're lit, you could totally pull it off without massive sparklers. Although massive sparklers would be pretty cool haha

I did one in June. I didn't particularly care about the send off but it work best logistically with doing a private last dance (one of my favorite parts)

we contacted the firework place near us. they opened up and let us try a couple different sparklers to pick out favorite and they were much cheaper than ordering them

we found extra long sparklers that burn slow and have very little smoke (high smoke could make for cool pictures but our venue was public so we didn't want to smoke out everyone else)

We purchased 2 long lighters (maybe should have done a bunch of regular cigarette lighters instead)

we found two old popcorn tins (could be any bucket really) and filled them with sand we purchased at Walmart for less than $5

we gave all of this to our coordinator and did not put them out for people to just grab and light willy-nilly

we made sure someone went out just before us to worn everyone we were coming out.

our photographer wanted everyone to wait to light them until that person came out but our coordinator insisted that wouldn't work so I am not super sure how or when they lit them or which way actually works best but I would say make sure you have extras and lots of lighters and it might work better. also paus half way down and kiss or spin or something

My friend did it at her wedding and it last their whole walk out and also they stoped a couple of times to kiss for the pictures. Then They got to the end and they lasted for a good couple of pictures. It was really pretty. The event planner lit the first people in line and then again in the middle and everyone lit each other with their sparkler. She also had the longest ones you can find.

We had normal size sparklers and had no problems with them not lasting. As a guest I always hate the super long ones because I’m standing there for another minute or two after the couple walks thru waiting for it to go down.

We are ordering ours from sparklers.us and they give the time of each sparkler so you can use as references to how long of a sparkler you need so they remain lit during the exit and for pictures.

We have long sparklers. The lady at my venue recommended the easiest thing to do is have everyone line up, light one or two sparklers and have someone (or a few people) going down the line to light everyone's from the sparkler, not a lighter. She said they seem to light better that way. She also recommended starting at the back so when you are walking down, the people at the from still have plenty of sparkle!

Buy your sparklers from a firework store, they sell extra long sparklers so they will last longer. Also maybe you can do pictures with just your bridal party. You won't have to spend as much money on sparklers and it will be easier to take some great pics! My brother and his wife did this for their wedding and the result was beautiful!!! That's what I plan for my wedding.

Thank you everyone! That helps so much, I'll definitely be getting the larger ones since it makes the most sense. And starting from the back lol!
