Natalie, on November 22, 2016 at 11:03 PM Posted in Planning 0 15

Any tips for sparklers? Size? Where to buy? We r inviting 200 people how many sparklers should we buy? Like 50-100? I dont think everyone will be there at the end or will want to participate? I dont want to over buy.

Don't get the little ones, my friend got them and they didn't even last 30 seconds. I bought one for each person, I'd hate to run out! My dad also wanted one for each hand (haha idk if others feel the same way) ... they last 2 minutes. They're marketed as "celebration sparklers" and they're supposed have less smoke.

You might get some pushback about sparklers, but if you think about safety, keeping it orgainized and your heart is in the right place (not doing this just for the photos), then I think it will be a nice ending

Do not buy regular fourth of July sparklers, they are not proper/safe/high quality enough for wedding photos. If you use sparklers, be sure to get ones specifically for weddings. This is where I got sparklers for my wedding:

We got 96 of the #20 ones. Wedding sparklers are safer, have less smoke, and last longer. This is an article about a situation (although it might be rare) that can happen with non-wedding sparklers (warning - some unpleasant photos!):

Ask your venue about safety regulations too- mine will not allow more than a certain number of sparklers. We'll have around 100 guests but only 20 or so sparklers. The rest will have bubbles.

We bought "wedding sparklers" they were long, lasted plenty of time, and actually didn't smoke quite as much.

ETA: DH and I went to a wedding last year where they used "fourth of july sparklers" and it was AWFUL! The bride wanted everyone to re-do the walk through THREE times since they didn't last long enough for everyone's to be lit.. and it was so terribly smokey.

I went to Sky King and got the ones with long stems ( my cousin once lit her sweater on fire when we were little with the shorter ones) and the long burning ones. If you go to a local firework store just ask, its usually the off season for them and mine did buy one get one so I got enough for each guest and then about 20 leftover for people who wanted to hold two.

We bought 36" wedding sparklers. They were great. We bought enough for 75% of the guests since we figured not everyone would stick around / want to participate. We also provided buckets of sand to stick them in at the end to make sure they went completely out. I've also seen buckets of water used as well.

Make sure your venue accepts them. My venue has a huge clause against them... They actually started a fire at one wedding

I participated in one, and never again. Regardless if they smoke or not, I think they still stink. I couldn't wait to get a shower and wash my hair. I put my dress in a plastic bag, for the flight home, and had to have it dry cleaned.

If you do this, make sure you can make your exit in a timely fashion. Some friends did this, and the bride got all caught up fiddling with her hair, and someone burned their hand waiting for them to come out.

I did one. My hair didn't stink and my dress didn't either. It literally took two minutes. I got the 20" ones from sparklersonline.com. I received them within like 3 days from ordering them. Highly recommend!

We had about 85 guests at the wedding. I bought 120 sparklers. And we had wayyy too many.
