Southern California Fall Weddings 2020

Hey guys! Curious for all of my fall 2020 brides, what are your venues telling you? Are they making you postpone, or just waiting it out? I’ve heard as of now that some venues are allowing ceremonies but no receptions.

    Following this.

I think technically “wedding receptions” are not allowed under the COVID guidelines. But religious ceremonies (indoor 25% capacity or 100 people and outdoor no number as long as social distanced and masks are used both indoors and out) & protests are allowed.
Thinking we’ll just call our reception a protest lol
Personally, I’m planning(and always have been) a backyard wedding with about 90 people in October. I’m interested to see what other people are doing or have done this because I’m not sure about the rules. I don’t think “COVID guidelines” can really be used as law on private property like a backyard- but I’m still nervous about getting shut down.

We have cancelled our reception in the Central Valley and we are planning to do it next October. We are having a private church wedding and we were told by our church we could only have 95 guests including bride, groom and photographer. We will be having less than 40 though. Mandatory social distancing and as of now, masks are mandatory. That may change by October (who knows). I was tired of stressing about how things were going to work out as we have 175 guests for our reception. It definitely took a lot of stress off of us and I feel like I will be able to enjoy my wedding day so much more.

Our ceremony venue was in Santa Barbara and their guidelines to go through with the ceremony were going to be super strict. Everyone would have to wear masks the whole time they were on the property, which is understood but they were going to make us wear masks during the ceremony as well. Which is obviously not ideal and was a deal breaker for us. We decided to postpone for next year. It's better that way I think. I mean we don't know what will happen, it could get worse next year but as long as people feel unsafe and have to wear masks, a wedding can't be very enjoyable.

Our venue has been pretty much closed since March with the exception of 1 general manager for email inquiries. They are not forcing us to postpone or cancel (wedding is scheduled for Oct. 2nd), however seeing how they won't be reopening for at least another month we've decided to move forward postponing until next week. They did let us know that we would have to wear masks as well since that is the current state guidance, but didn't give any more context to what would be required.

Hi Jordyn! I’ve seen a few other CA brides sharing updates about their fall weddings in these posts as well: Upcoming California weddings? and Summer weddings in Ca-still moving forward?
