Soundcloud or Spotify to create playlist?

Ashley, on August 15, 2018 at 11:25 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

Hello Everyone,

My fiancé and I have decided to use either Spotify or another music streaming app to play music for our reception. My girlfriend used Spotify for her wedding of 160 people and it was a blast! However, I am concerned about the songs that are over 4 minutes long or the oldies that have 10 seconds of silence at the end of the song. Does anyone know how to cut songs or another app we could use ... possibly soundcloud? We are really looking for any advice you have, but please be kind and don't tell me to hire a DJ.

I'm downloading music straight to my laptop and cutting them through audacity. If you do end up using Spotify, make sure to download the songs to your device because you don't know how the internet will be at your venue.

Hi Ashley! I am an avid Spotify user, I love it!! There is a setting you can do where you loop the song, so at the end it will automatically go into the next song so it almost sounds like a DJ is mashing the songs together! Also agreeing with the above comment, once you make the playlist, download it!

I think you might need to get spotify premium for that, though. But I think it's worth it.

I honestly wish I did it this way, the DJ didn't play most of the songs we wanted and even played things off our "do not play list" so I feel like we wasted money on something we could have done better ourselves. So you're making a good decision!

My advice would be to download the songs to your laptop like FutureMrsJackson mentioned in case of internet trouble, Spotify is more user friendly so I'd definitely use that over sound cloud, get good speakers, get a microphone, have a designated family member make the necessary announcements, and make sure you play a good range of eras of music so all guests could enjoy (90s music was the most popular at my wedding). Good Luck Smiley smile

We made a Spotify playlist with lots of 80s and 90s with a little bit of Disney sprinkled in. Easy and inexpesive Smiley smile I know a lot of people use their DJ as an MC for announcements and to guide everything along, but that’s something our DOC will do.

Spoitify has a shuffle equalizer setting that can overlap songs and have it play continuous mix. Its called crossfade and you can have the old song fade out for the last 10 seconds and have the new song play with no dead spots. Give it a Try!

Go with Spotify and get premium! Premium will let you download the songs so you don't need to worry about streaming.
