Sound setup for live ceremony music

Juliet, on December 2, 2019 at 2:59 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 4

Hello, I am considering asking my brother and cousin to play guitar and violin for the prelude and recessional music during my outdoor ceremony. They have played together before casually for family and are both good performers individually. My question is about the setup. My brother has a good amp for the guitar but my cousin only has an acoustic violin. Does anyone know if this would be loud enough for the ceremony? I am not very familiar with string performances for weddings, do they typically use amps or microphones or do they just play acoustically? Thanks

I’m a violinist. 99% of the time there is no need for an amp.

Our wedding was small but we had a violinist and an accordionist, neither needed any amplification.

    Hey Juliet!

This sounds like a wonderful idea! I’m sure your brother and cousin would be so proud to be asked to handle this role at your wedding!

I would imagine that the violin wouldn’t need an amp. It looks like the pp knows her stuff and she also suggests that an amp probably won’t be needed.

You will need to ask your brother and cousin to work together to figure out their set so that one instrument doesn’t overtake the other, soundwise.
