SOS!!!! Ordered Bigger size of Emma by Maggie Sottero. PLEASE ADVISE

Ketusha, on March 24, 2014 at 11:59 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

Hello Ladies. I ordered my Emma in Ivory yesterday SOOOOO excited. I need size 14 based on measurements and I am planning to lose at least 15lb till wedding. I love the dress but I wish it was little more flare on the bottom, so I ordered size u, size 16 because it has 2 inches more fabric on the bottom. NOW I AM FREAKING OUT. is it worth ordering bigger size for 2 inches more? is it hard to tighten it up on the top? I am afraid that it will be harder to fit it to my body on top. What is your take on this? should I call and change it to size 14?

It's better to give your seamstress more fabric to work with.

Chill, it will all be alright. Especially if you don't end up losing the weight.

Most dresses can be in taken in up to 2 sizes easily.

I was told 10 lbs typically equates one size, so you should be ok.

Maybe you should call and ask about the alterations, it is possible they could just add fabric to the bottom instead of ordering 2 sizes bigger for more fabric.

I think I'd order a 14 and wear a crinoline underneath to add flare. Adding two inches to the bottom adds length, not fullness. I would think any excess length would just be cut off anyway in alterations.

I didn't end up wearing the first dress I chose, but I ordered it with extra length.

I agree with Paris. That crinoline underneith would have sufficed just fine for the purposes you're describing.

Also, I wore a size 18 at the time of purchasing my Alfred Angelo dress. We ordered it in one size down to a 16 as I knew I'd be losing weight. I ended up losing 30 lbs. and that 16 fit like a glove.

Keep in mind, ready to wear and bridal sizes are WAY different. I am now a 14-16 in ready to wear dresses, but still a 16 in bridal gowns. 30lbs. didn't mean a whole lot in bridal fashion, unfortunately.

I personally would not buy a bigger size.

I should have been more specific. It adds 2 inches from hips down therefore to fullness. Length does not change. I want to add crinoline but maybe 1 skirt most two. I tried 3 skirted crinoline and dress looked too stuffed and lost movement on the bottom. So my thinking behind it is to get little more fabric and add one extra layer of crinoline. I just wanted to know if my thinking makes scene to others Smiley smile

Dress Twin! I ordered the same dress! I wasn't a big fan of how I sized though: 4 in the chest, 2 in the waist and just barely a 6 in the hips. They had me order a 6 and I am super worried it will be too big!! Best of luck!! Smiley smile

Chelsea, I sized 14 everywhere but ordered 16 because I want it little flare on the bottom. they said 16 had 2 inches more fabric from hips down. Hope it works out

You could have just ordered extra length instead of a bigger size - but thats what seamstresses are for. And because the dress has pick ups they won't actually cut off the bottom (more money for alterations ) they should just pin up the picks up to get you the right length.

It will all be ok Smiley smile

I just bought my dress! and I told them I plan on losing 10 more pounds by next summer, and they said go with the bigger size anyway so it's easier for the seamstress. You will be okay!!!!! Smiley smile

Can you add more fabric to the bottom? I got a Maggie dress and they are adding a foot of train to it and I ordered it like that.
