Sos! Are sleeves possible?

Jenna, on December 29, 2019 at 2:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 4

I love my dress but I am still dying to have a dress with sleeves.. I've heard that it's easier to add sleeves to a dress that already has straps. Would it be possible or am I crazy lol..

It is possible with some gowns but this looks so finished as is! If you must have sleeves, *maybe* lace cap sleeves or flutter sleeves? Ask a seamstress to show you options with your dress on before committing. It’ll change the look of this dress.

I think you could add some illusion/mesh sleeves - but, honestly - I wonder what it would look like since your straps and armhole have the lace appliqué. I think it looks beautiful as it is. But, like she mentioned above - I’d have the seamstress pin some sleeves in to show you what it’d look like.

I would really only consider an illusion sleeve for this, it’s stunning and you don’t want to take the attention from this details. If that doesn’t work, could you try a sleeved dress cover or cape that’s removable?

The lace has a netting/tulle fabirc so you could very well add tulle fabric sleeves. You are correct that the straps help, because without them you wouldn't have anything to add sleeves to.

I agree with the other comments about adding something flowly. I think that could look really beautiful. A fitted sleeve may be difficult to do. Keeping in mind that tulle does stretch out easily so best not to mess with it too much. In that case a loose flowly sleeve would be prefect. The scalloping detail of the lace isn't an issue at all. The seamstress would just have to attach the sleeves from underneith the scallop design, and it will look very natural and seamless. If you have any lace scraps from alterations, those can be lightly added inbetween the strap and where the sleeve is added so that the lace is coming onto the sleeve just a little. That way it'll look like the sleeves were meant to there. Best of luck! It definitely looks beautiful as is, but you absolutely have great potential here for sleeves!
