Songs for offbeat brides?

Soon2BeMrsG, on September 22, 2015 at 10:14 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

I am looking for some alternative songs for the ceremony and reception. We have a lot of our songs chosen already however are still struggling with the unity song, song for when the parents are seated, the recessional, bridal party entrance among others! I'm even questioning my aisle song. We're not very traditional and enjoy a lot of different types of music, rock being one of them. I just need some suggestions for anything other than your typical wedding songs! The DJ's list just had the same old stuff on it. Thanks :-)

Can you list some of the songs that you have already so we have an idea of what you like?

We've been talking about Arctic Monkeys, Cage The Elephant, Bleachers, and Coleman Hell being on the playlist...but rock is a pretty vague genre these days, so they might not be up your alley.

I am walking down to Ben Folds "The Luckiest" I think, and I've bookmarked a ton of Vitamin String Quartet string arrangements of songs that are not traditional wedding songs but the instrumental arrangements are so great! So I think they'll be a fun inside joke for anyone who knows the song, but not all my guests are going to identify that a song is like, by Ozzy Osbourne.

    Also, Muse.

Soon2Be, I second what WolfWedding said above, Vitamin String Quartet has some AMAZING instrumental versions of rock songs (all songs, really, but you mentioned rock above). Check them out on YouTube, they are incredible!

Also, consider changing your avatar Smiley smile People associate the double rings with spammers/trolls, so you will likely get more responses if you have a picture of something..anything else. Good luck with finding the perfect song!!

OP, I would consider myself an offbeat bride and I love all things rock/metal. Here are some of our songs.

    BP Processional: TBD

I'm walking down the aisle to "For Whom the Bell Tolls" - Metallica

    Recessional: "Dancing Through Sunday" -AFI

Reception Entrance - Bridal Party: TBD

Reception Entrance - Bride and Groom: "We Hate Everyone" -Type O Negative

First Dance: "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica, then transition to "Monster" by Crown the Empire (we're going to have the BP join in to mosh)

I would love to hear what choices you make!

Speaking of offbeat...here's my cake topper.

I never liked the term 'offbeat'. Nowadays, weddings come in all shapes and tastes.

Processional: "Come to Me" Goo Goo Dolls

    Recessional: None yet.

Reception Entrance: "On Top of the World" Imagine Dragons

First Dance: Howl's Moving Castle theme to a waltz.

I'll come up with a list of songs to be played in the background during seating.

We're just under a year away so nothing is set in stone. Here are our untraditional choices

Groom Processional: Here Comes Your Man - The Pixies

    Bridal Party: ?

Bride: Do You Know Who You Are (Instrumental) - Texas is the Reason

    Recessional: Imperial March?

BP Reception Entrance: True Believers - Bouncing Souls

Bride and Groom Entrance - I reeeaally want Born to Run but FH is not into it

First Dance: Teo Torriatte - Queen

I agree with everyone suggesting Vitamin String Quartet. I went to a wedding with amazing ceremony music a couple of years ago. The bride told me it was all Vitamin String Quartet.

We used an orchestral version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" for the Groom's processional (it's the Indiana University one on YouTube and it's incredible). His mom was seated to the piano version of "Chim Chim Cheree" and the girls walked to the Jurassic Park theme by the Piano Guys. I walked to an orchestral version of "Once Upon a Dream" since I wanted to walk to Disney and Sleeping Beauty is his favorite animated classic.
