Song Selection *tell me your songs*

Kayla, on September 2, 2018 at 4:34 PM Posted in Planning 0 21

I am wanting our wedding to be an emotional experience for all included. I'm shooting for classic and modern and romantic music. What are some of your choices?

I wish I could stop crying long enough to listen to these songs!!! Tears are falling on my notebook! Wedding planning is such a fun experience -- and very emotional.

Parents and grandparents are walking down the aisle to "Love Remains" by Hilary Scott. Bridesmaid/Groomsmen are walking to Canon in D. My dad and I are walking to the Wedding version of Perfect by Ed Sheeran. Then we are exiting to "You've Got a Friend in Me" by Randy Newman 😊

We're doing a mix of old and new songs. I'm walking down the aisle to an acoustic guitar cover of "all you need is love" by the Beatles, we're being introduced to the reception with "feel so close" by Calvin Harris, our first dance is "that's how strong my love is" by Otis Redding, and for comedic reasons, when we get called up to cut the cake, we're gonna play "love and marriage" by Frank Sinatra (the theme song to married with children).

All ceremony songs were instrumental, played live by a cello/violin duo:

BM processional: Somewhere Over the Rainbow (Israel Kaʻanoʻi Kamakawiwoʻole version)

Bridal processional: Book of Love by Peter Gabriel (Never knew it before, but it made me cry the first time I heard the lyrics)

Recessional: Dog Days are Over by Florence + the Machine

For the parent and wedding party processional Bless the Broken Road, bridal entrance Make You Feel My Love, unity candle All I Ask of You, recessional Can’t Take My Eyes Off You, first dance either It’s Your Love by Tim McGraw or Perfect by Ed Sheeran, and right before the sparkler exit Parting Glass. I made a playlist and I just sit in my car and cry lol

We are going more traditional with a twist for the ceremony so we are thinking: for the Processional: Veni Veni Emmanuel - sung in Latin for the choir, acolytes, chalice bearers and clergy (sung by the choir), Greensleeves/What Child is This? for my fiancee's Honor Guard, Trumpet Voluntary ?? Possibly from Zelda for my fiancee (and dad?), Pachelbel's Canon in D for my Bridal Party and the kids, Trumpet Voluntary: Throne Room theme from SW A New Hope for myself and my parents. Then Panis Angelicus with tenor soloist for communion offertory, and a bunch of hymns throughout, but the only one I really know that I want (and will fight for) is Seek Ye First as a round, also thinking of Be Thou My Vision.

And Recessional: Trumpet Voluntary: Hedwig's Theme (from Harry Potter) for the two of us, Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty Waltz for the rest of the wedding party, And Beethoven's Joyful Joyful (sung) for the Liturgical party (clergy, choir, acolytes etc).

For the reception we still havent decided on much but our first dance - we have mixed I'll Cover You from Rent and She Keeps Me Warm by Mary Lambert. My parent dances - my dad picked My Girl by the Temptations for us, and Mom and I are definitely doing Elvis most likely Cant Help Falling in Love cause that is what she used to sing to us as very small children. Possibly Unforgettable for the Anniversary dance. And very likely I Choose You by Sara Bareilles for the cake cutting.

I’ve spent hours looking for songs and I think we have ours narrowed down. Grandparents and moms: Say You Won’t Let Go (instrumental) by Allison Gilbert. Processional: a Thousand Years by Boyce Avenue. And me walking down: Cant Help Falling In Love With You (instrumental) by The Wilderness ☺️

I have a harpist for our ceremony, she's playing all Celtic music while guests are being seated. The moms are walking down to Married Life from Up, Bridesmaids are walking down to Tale as Old as Time, my dad and I are walking down to Perfect and our recessional is the Welsh National Anthem, as a surprise for my fiance.

I really need to sit down and think about these important songs! I keep seeing posts and all I have so far is the song that we are going to do our first dance to which is John Legend - All of Me.

Dont stress too much yet. I keep changing mine around - and I really have nothing for the reception, just the church music because people need to learn it (and I need to find the sheet music in the right key if the church doesnt already have it - and there are A LOT of filing cabinets of sheet music to search through!)
