Song for Mother-in-law / Son-in-law Dance

Private User, on May 20, 2013 at 5:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 1

It may sound odd that I mentioned to my future s-i-l that I would be honored to have a featured dance with him at the reception. However, both of his parents are deceased, and I don't want him to feel left out or awkward when my daughter has her father-daughter dance with my husband. I explained that I in no way am trying to replace his mother (who passed away when he was 7. He is now 38.) But I love him like a son. He truly became emotionally that I would want to do this. He said it is a sweet gesture and means a lot to him. Now my question...Does anyone have a suggestion for an appropriate song for us to dance to? Thanks for your thoughts. If you think this is inappropriate you can tell me that too.

It is definitely not inappropriate! People will love the gesture and it will probably be the most emotional point in the reception.

WW has a huge list of suitable songs. Find one that appeals to you. Sometimes its the lyrics, sometimes its the melody. Sometimes it is something you know he'll like or vice versa. A few weddings back, the son played "Wild Thing" by the Troggs for his mom. Appropriate for the dance? Not for everyone. A bit hard to slow dance to as well, but it was the song his mom played for him everyday when she picked him up from school. Something with a personal meaning will mean more than just any old song.

Maybe his mom liked a certain group or genre. That could be part of your decision, honoring her.

Anyway, fantastic idea! Good luck and congrats to your daughter & SIL!
