Something Old

Lindsey, on November 10, 2019 at 6:45 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 13
This past weekend I received an engagement gift from my family. My grandfather recently passed and my grandma passed two years before. They were married for 64 years. I was gifted with this amazing necklace with a piece of my grandma's wedding dress in it. Thinking of tying it onto my bouquet on the big day.

Anyone else ever received an amazing gift like this?

My mom Mary passed away from cancer when I was only 14, and my dad passed away there years later when I was 17 from a heart attack. They were still happily married when she died. My dad had given me the necklace and earrings she wore the day she married him. I wish I knew where the earrings were, but I still had the charm from her necklace. I put it on a borrowed string of pearls from a friend. They were her late mom's who I was also close to. i'm not sure why I didn't wear it the first time I got married, but i'm glad I didn't because I had it this time

I’m using my late grandmother’s rosary in my bouquet. 💕 We’re getting married on what would be her and my late grandfather’s 73rd wedding anniversary.

My mom gave me a handkerchief that she carried on her wedding day and my grandmother also carried on her wedding day . It was made by my great aunt(my grandpa's older sister) and has her beautiful handmade lace edging it.

I don’t have a picture of it, but I’m getting a string of heirloom pearls from my grandmother who passed a few years ago. Apparently it gets handed down from grandmother to grand daughter, so it skipped my aunts. I hate pearls xD but I’m still going to wear it in my wedding.

I used my grandmother's pearls. It was a bit of a drama to get them - my mother had them, but they belonged to me. (Divorce settlements are fun!)

Anyway, I got them, and I love them. They are old, freshwater pearls, and they went perfectly with my dress. My stepmother loaned me her mother's pearl earrings for my something borrowed, my something blue was the Ravenclaw diadem comb holding my veil/hair (and panties, JIC the hairpiece came out lol!), and my something new was my dress/shoes/veil.

I found it really nice to have a small family heirloom, no matter the history of the family. Just a little continuation of the line.

What a wonderful gift, I'm so happy you'll have it for your wedding day! The center stone of my engagement ring belonged to my great great grandmother, so that's really special to me. My MIL cut up fabric from her dress & made a wrap for my bouquet, so that was another special touch.

It is beautiful. I wanted a brooch bouquet so my family poured in family heirlooms for me to have on it. My something old was in overload lol but it is something I will always cherish!
