Something old, something new, Something borrowed, something blue

kt, on October 23, 2009 at 6:37 PM Posted in Planning 0 23

Whats everyone doing???

Something blue- I'm thinking of getting blue underwear saying "bride" but can't find any online that cost less than 20 bucks..When am I ever gonna wear Bride underwear again? For some reason though, I'm all into wearing the Bride tshirt too..

My something old- pearls (most likely)

something borrowed- ??

something new- plan to wear the perfume my hubby is getting me as my bride gift..does perfume count?

What about everyone else?

I saw a cute idea for something blue. The bride put her and her FH's name on the soles of her heels along with the date in blue letter stickers!

For old and borrowed and blue, I used the garter my mother wore when she married my dad. It is blue. They had been married 45 years by the time I used it. Today, they have been married 61 years. I believe in getting the biggest bang for the buck that I can!

You can borrow a hanky or jewelry for the borrowed.

For something blue, check out charming blue-accented garters at http://forprincessbride.com/store/page5.html on the very bottom of the page (on top, there are handbags). Something old is usually jewelry that has been in the family for some years (or generations). Something new? You are already wearing it: your wedding dress!!! It's amazing how nobody even remembers that fact! Something borrowed? Again, usually it's a jewelry item borrowed from a friend or family. Lois L. - you are in luck: you are having one item that is old, borrowed and blue at the same time, and it also obviously brings good luck! Best wishes to all of you, ladies!

Something old = Civil Wedding Ring

    Something new = Wedding Dress

    Something blue = Garter

Something borrowed = Last minute I forgot and I borrowed $5.00 from my Dad, before walking down the aisle. Smiley smile

I was wondering about this, the something blue, does it count if you have a shade of blue in the wedding.. I have baby blue and teal... Or do I have to have something blue? I think I probally will have a flower blue but not sure yet.. I am also doing the pearls as old and not sure about the about borrowed and new would be apart of the wedding like new shoes or something like that...

I have always been under the impression that these items were supposed to be provided your mom/dad/attendants... or perhaps that's a tradition in my family. Either way, my something blue is going to be my shoes.

Also, there's another tid-bit to the rhyme that gets left out due to "flow" of the rhyme: "and a sixpence in your shoe" which is supposed to represent wealth.

The something old is supposed to represent the history of the bride, something new is supposed to represent your future with your husband, something borrowed is supposed to come from someone who is married and since blue is the color of purity it is supposed to represent the faithfulness in marriage.

Something old - Can be combined with something borrowed -- like mom's pearl necklace, for example.

Something new - All my jewelry and my dress are new. Most everything's new, even your shoes.

    Something borrowed - mom's pearls or a grandmother's brooch.

Something blue - most brides get a blue garter but I'm going to carry a blue embroidered handkercheif in a white silk pouch around my wrist.

    Best of luck!!
