Something different for dinner

Kaala, on February 8, 2022 at 2:27 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 8
Hi guys! I'm planning a carnival themed wedding and need advice about my timeline/dinner. We're having a taco bar, carving station, funnel cakes, sausage bites, sliders, popcorn and cotton candy. My original idea was to have everything set up like you'd see it at a state Fair. Games and food stations randomly set out so guests can mingle and grab snacks as they wish. We weren't having a "formal" dinner hour as we're trying to minimize any waiting around that people may do as that's our least favorite part of weddings. Now I'm starting to rethink having the food set out for the entire time. Has anyone seen any unique ways to do dinner that strays from the norm?

I think you could make this work, but I’d maybe save the funnel cake, popcorn and cotton candy for a dessert option. Could you do two rounds of stations? The savory options out for 1-1.5 hours and then the sweet options after that?

That's a great idea! I was trying to avoid any break down and setup in front of guests, but if we do games on the opposite side they probably wouldn't even notice!

I wouldn’t worry about that. Catering staff breaks down buffets in front of guests so this would be similar to that.

Thank you! Neither of us are very traditional or into the mushy love stuff 🤣 So we decided that the carnival was for us! We're having balloon darts, corn hole, bottle ring toss, pop shot basketball, a high striker (those things you hit with a giant hammer to ring the bell on top)...etc. Lots of fun and games!

Sounds fun! I like the idea of two serving times. Just make sure everyone has a seat to call "home base" and leave their stuff at, and you're all good!

Hello! I am planning a popcorn bar as part of our cocktail hour! I am wondering how long it can sit out before it begins to taste "stale"? I plan to have everything set up by 3pm for our 4:30 ceremony, but cocktail hour isn't until 5pm! Any tips on keeping popcorn "fresh" without putting it out at the very last minute?
