Something Borrowed - not Jewelry?

Sarah, on March 16, 2018 at 1:24 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

Hi all!
I'm scratching my head trying to find "something borrowed" that's not a jewelry item. I'm already wearing my late grandmother's pearl earrings as my "something old," but she gave them to me before passing, so they're not borrowed.

I'm also wearing (hopefully) a ring that I'm having made with blue sapphires from my fiance's late mother's earrings as my "something blue."

My dress is long-sleeve so not thinking to do a bracelet unless it's dainty and won't be seen (though I have super petite wrists so would be limited in options to borrow without it falling off) and I'm not doing a necklace because of the neckline, so this leaves no room really for jewelry.

Any other ideas for something borrowed? I already have my veil, so I don't think that's an option, and one of my bridesmaids suggested perfume, but my fiancé and I are exchanging perfume and cologne as gifts for the day of. I'm stumped!

All ideas appreciated! Smiley heart

Is there something you could possibly wrap around your bouquet as your something borrowed? A necklace or charm? I’ve also seen people borrow a cake knife from parents/grandparents to cut their cake with and that is the something borrowed.

My something borrowed was the lanterns we used as decor. One of my friends used them in her wedding and offered them to us.

My dad also offered an old vintage medical book he had for centerpieces because he saw we were using them.

I don't see anything wrong with asking a trusted loved one...

Maybe so! I didn't think of something wrapped around my bouquet... that's a great idea! Perhaps from my uncle and aunt... they've been married 32 years!

I was going to suggest the veil but, I see that's already been taken care of.

How about one of the following:

borrowing a handkerchief (especially a vintage one) to wipe your happy tears.

a pin, cufflinks, jewelry, etc. and incorporate it into the wrap of your bouquet.

do you know someone with a vintage or cool car? How about borrowing it for a couple of fun photos?

if you are religious borrow a bible and have a reading from it used during the ceremony.

a vintage cake topper or cake cutting set.

a hair clip/pin if you are doing an updo.

    Good luck!

My grandma offered to loan me her crucifix that she wore to her wedding to wind around my bouquet as something borrowed. If I were Christian I would have LOVED to take her up on it!

I didn’t want to have to buy cake cutting utensils so I asked FMIL if she had any (she loves baking), and she told me she actually still has the ones from her and FFILs wedding! Now we’re going to use those and it makes me happy there is that added sentiment

I borrowed the song I walked down the aisle to. My mom walked down to the same song in 1986.

I loved asking my family for these. I'm borrowing jewelry but my grandma is doing my something old and offered both a necklaceto wrap around my bouquet, and a piece of lace from her bouquet to incorporate in my dress. Think of different ways to incorporate whatever is offered!

My borrowed was a handkerchief that was made by my great-great grandmother for my great grandmother for her wedding. It has hand made lace along the edges so beautiful. My great grandmother gave it to my mom on her wedding day and I borrowed it from my mom. I wrapped it around my bouquet.

This is a beautiful idea!!! I will ask my mom if she has one (which, funny enough, I'm giving her a hand-embroidered handkerchief with a message as her gift)!

Thanks for such a lovely idea.
