Something blue?

Gabi, on August 16, 2019 at 10:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

I keep hearing and seeing all these photos, videos, movies, articles, etc. about "something blue" or "something old" for your wedding day. Where exactly does this all stem from? And, because I'm me and I love dyeing my hair, it is currently a beautiful blue, so should I keep the blue hair for the "something blue" or change it back to red for the Christmas theme? I know blue can be part of Christmas as well, but I'd like all of y'all's opinions

I don’t remember the exact wedding origin but blue was originally the color for women, it symbolizes purity.
Blue hair for sure! What a fun something blue!

A nice light blue would look like snowflakes, you could look like an ice princess at your wedding! Mine’s pink so I just love seeing colored hair brides.

This is what my blue hair looks like. Obviously, it'll fade, but should I keep it like that or go lighter, like you said??

    The original rhyme was:

    Something old,
    something new,
    something borrowed,
    something blue,
and a sixpence in her shoe.

    The meaning is described here:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Something_old

It's just a tradition, so you can keep it or leave it. But if you like blue hair, why not?

Hmm maybe a lighter blue like robins egg or even a silvery frosty blue, something more wintery. You could even do an ombre of blue.

The blue hair is a nice touch but I like your red hair too... especially at xmas time... pick the color you like most and most represents you blue or not. And rock it.

That's the trouble I've had before. Everyone loved the red hair but a lot pf people love the blue hair as something new. And I love both.... I think I'll just wait it out until between a month and a week of the wedding and do the final decision. But thank you for the advice!!

I like the blue, it’s so different! You could do a silver-blue, which would be gorgeous with a Christmas theme!

Ombre silver blue or dark to light would be gorgeous! BUT, if red is more you, stick to red and find a different way to incorporate your blue if you'd like. I used my garter as my something blue Smiley smile

It's folklore that the "something blue, old, borrowed, and new" are to bring good luck to a bride on her wedding day.

My something blue are my Chuck's.
