Some bridesmaids haven’t ordered their dresses

Krystyna, on January 16, 2019 at 10:49 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
I chose the bridesmaids dresses in November and gave them a deadline on December. Wedding is in June. Dresses will take around 4 months. My maid of honor ordered her dress right away, which was perfect. I figured she’d get her dress by March and I could coordinate groomsmen ties and table linens to match dresses (I haven’t seen the dress color since the shop didn’t have a dress in the color I wanted. I ordered Tiffany blue, so I’m hoping it’s the color I was looking for). I didn’t realize the dresses won’t get ordered until everyone places their orders. So i have to guess the rest of the wedding colors and hope they match. 2 bridesmaids haven’t ordered their dresses yet. I have reached out at least 5 times asking them to please order their dresses. I told them that the order doesn’t get placed until everyone orders, if they’re busy they can just call the place with their measurements. I even let them know the owner will be on vacation this week and won’t be back until February (which will be too late to order dresses).I’m not sure what to do at this point. I’m thinking maybe to call the dress shop and see if they will just place the order for the other 6 bridesmaids. It’s not fair to them to have to rush and get alterations right before the wedding. Anyone have a similar situation or any advice? TIA

You’re either going to need to place the order now or go with a different place to get the dresses.

I had a similar issue with one of my bridesmaids - it turned out that she was having a difficult time affording the dress because she is also planning her wedding at the same time (we are both bridesmaids in each other's wedding). So to get the dresses done and ordered I just had her call in her measurements and I paid for it and she will pay me back. So my advice is maybe see if there is a money issue and if there is any way to help with it. I was also in the same boat - none of our dresses got ordered until they were all in and the designer took about 3 months. I hate waiting until the last minute - my wedding is in July and they are due to come in the end of this month.

My wedding is in May and none of my bridesmaids have even ordered a dress. I keep asking them when they are but they just say soon. So I understand your issues.

I originally tried to get my bridesmaids to order dresses in December, but it was unanimous that none of them could afford to buy their dress at the time due to the holidays. Maybe that is the same reason your bridesmaids haven't ordered their dress? We went to David's Bridal, and they also gave a 4 month timeline, but I feel like most of that is said to scare you into buying right away. My wedding is also in June, and I think all of my bridesmaids will have their dress orders in by the end of this month. Where did you go for your bridesmaid dresses? Could you of gotten a color swatch? I'd be uncomfortable choosing a color without physically seeing it first, because they often don't look the same as they do online.

Have you asked them why they haven't ordered them yet? Is it a financial issue?

Have your BM order the dresses directly from the DB website. They will take a week or so come to in. DB does not make the dresses to order, they are factory made like all clothes, and they take a while to come to the store b/c the store batch orders. However, if you order it online, it will come way faster. I did this for a friend's wedding and got my dress in a week. Other girls in the wedding ordered the same dress from a consultant at a store and the dress took two months.

My wedding is in May. One of my bridesmaids have ordered their dress (yesterday actually). They told me it'd be able 4-6 weeks for the dresses to come in. The other two should be ordering theirs by the end of the month. None of mine will need alterations per them so I'm not worried about that. I'm taking the guys to try on shirts/vests Feb 2nd. Are they waiting on money? Have they just not had time? Do they not know what size they need? Maybe say "hey, the dresses HAVE to be ordered by (Friday) so when can you go try them on and get them ordered? If we don't get them ordered in time no one will have a dress for the wedding since the order is placed as one group order."

I'm getting married in May as well. I'm using David's Bridal and I told my girls they had to at least go try on dresses by January 15th to narrow it down to no more than two styles. All of them met with me and tried dresses on and picked which one they wanted. I told them to order it no later than Feb 15th because it will start getting longer wait times before too long. Last week they told me it's about a 4-6 lead time for them to come in..longer the closer to spring. They all knew in June they'd be in my wedding and would be paying for the dress (I'm paying for everything else). So..I gave them time to save up..just getting them to go was harder until I gave them dates.

Yeah... I told mine too. And told them it's now too late to order and ship. They still keep saying they are going to try
