Solution for seating chart and bar glassware?

Allie, on May 14, 2019 at 5:28 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

Has anyone ever done this or seen this at a wedding? How do you feel about it? I have to provide the cups for my bartender and really didn't want to do disposable plastic because it's so wasteful.

I went to a wedding that did this. They ended up having to use plastic after like an hour because people either forgot where they put their cups or wanted to change drinks.

I like to switch up my drink at weddings so I wouldn’t want to hold onto the same glass all night. Can you rent glassware and have enough for everyone to get a fresh one with each drink?

I saw one that was take a shot and then your seat, but the coordinator hadn't set it up by the time guests arrived, so we stood in line while she looked it up on an ipad instead

    That's what I'm concerned about.

I will look into renting. Although, the venue doesn't want glass because there is a waterfall on site. So technically I would be finding something of more durable plastic that also served as an item they could take home. This way, I wouldn't have to buy a ton of extra plastic if people threw away a really cheesy cup.

Oh okay. I wouldn’t count on guests taking a cup home. I know disposable plastic cups are wasteful but it doesn’t really sound like there are any other options here.

I went to a wedding that had cute glasses for each guests at their seat and no one used them. At some point during dinner the DJ made an announcement and asked everyone to use their glasses! For whatever reason, people just didnt think to pick them up and bring them to the bar.

So I did this for my graduation party (we went all out 😂). And we didn’t buy any plastic cups so it was a big struggle! Someone didn’t have anything to drink for the entire night so idk 😂

Either rent enough to cover the evening, or do disposable cups. I would not take it home, an I like to switch up what I am dribkung throughout the evening.

I have been to two weddings with this and it's great as a favor and I had no issue with it. I am also not an idiot. The one was a small wedding and wasn't full open bar and the bartenders rinsed the glasses out before switching from say wine to the signature drink. The other wedding she ordered bulk of the plastic lemonade type cups you keep and reuse that she customized but I am pretty sure she had the extras up by the bartenders in case someone misplaced their cup. This is a know your crowd thing I think. In both cases there was an indication of like a sign saying it was theirs to use for the night (like your picture). If people can't follow directions well then idk...

I’ve been to a few weddings that had this. I personally think it’s annoying to have to rinse out the same glass if you want to change what you’re drinking

Yeah, I think I'm just going to go with disposable and get a recycling bin.

I feel like my side of the family would totally get it. I don't think his side would like it.

Yeah, well finding a recyclable disposable option or renting barware might be a better option for your crowd then! Whatever is easiest and most appealing for everyone

Hi, most products that are listed as biodegradable are not actually. These say they are both compostable and biodegradable which are two different things. I'm familiar with the material they are made of (PLA) and I can tell you with certainty they are not biodegradable. It will only break down under certain conditions (composting). My best bet will be buying recyclable cups and having a recycling bin; although recycling also comes with its own drawbacks (costly, time consuming). That's why I feel the best thing to do is reduce plastic waste. Sorry for the rant haha I just started my own business focused on reducing plastic waste by finding alternative solutions for single-use plastic. I was shocked to find out that most products that claim to be biodegradable are not. The packaging is just aimed to make you feel good about buying a product. They should really be educating their customers that further action is necessary other than just putting them in the garbage to reap the benefit of it being biodegradable.

I'm going to talk to my venue and see if she's willing to budge on the whole glass aspect. Then I could rent and would feel a lot better about it.
