Solo Violinist - should i get another violinist or cellist?

Am, on April 6, 2019 at 11:40 AM Posted in Planning 1 6

Hi all! We booked a solo violinist for our wedding ceremony. Listening to covers of the songs we love on youtube, the songs all sound a bit fuller with all the background music or more than one musician. It's so hard to imagine what it would sound like with just the songs' main tune played by one person. Anyone think a solo violinist is enough to capture those songs or to go for one additional musician? Thanks!

One violinist is fine! We had one for our ceremony and she helped set the romantic vibe so much. But she played mostly classical (and “He’s a Pirate” for our recessional).

If you hire more musicians (I.e. a trio) maybe have them play during your cocktail house too. Usually adding an extra 60 min isn’t as much as the first hour.

I prefer a solo musician unless the guest count is large.

We are having a solo violinist. She offered to provide samples of any song we would like to hear so maybe see if yours will too

I’m a violinist and it will be fine of course, but I would really recommend a cellist too to get the sound you’re looking for. I play solo sometimes but it’s not the same.

If you have it in your budget then I recommend hiring a cellist too. I hired a violin/cello duo and really enjoyed the full sound they provided. Each one of them also played a solo song during my ceremony but I preferred when they played together. I also had a pianist that really added to the overall sound.

I love a solo violist, but we decided to go with two violinists because I prefer that over a violinist and chellist. I prefer the slightly fuller sound that two instruments provides.
