Solo violin pieces?

Kara, on September 14, 2016 at 12:06 AM Posted in Planning 0 6

Hi all!

We are having a solo violinist ply before, during, and after the ceremony and during photography. It is a beach wedding, but still formal. Does anyone have musical experiences and could suggest pieces that would be appropriate for a solo violinist? So many pieces I see online are accompanied by piano or guitar. Specific suggestions for processional and recessional would be fantastic!

Your violinist probably has a repertoire- and some charge extra to learn new songs, so I would consult with them.

That being said, if you're looking for formal suggestions I am especially fond of any and all cello suites done by Bach.

Just be mindful that a single violin at the beach may be hard for guests to hear if it's too noisy out

I'm having a solo violinist for the ceremony and cocktail hour as well, they sent me a repertoire list and it was basically the same as a trio or quartet, etc.

I had all classical music for my ceremony.

    Prelude: Clair de Lune

    Professional: wedding march

    Bridal processional: cannon in D

    Interlude: Ave Maria

Unity Candle: hallelujah by Leonard Cohen

    Recessional: spring by Vivaldi

    Postlude: rondeau

Your violinist will already have a standard repertoire of pieces they know and are appropriate for your setting. You can't ask them to learn all new music for your event, so check with them first before sending them your wishlist. You might ask them for a sample 'standard playlist' from a similar event as a starting point.
