Soldering rings? pros/cons/metal options

FutureMrsAF, on June 11, 2017 at 3:06 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

Is it possible to solder different gold karat weights? I know that you cannot solder silver and gold for example, but can you solder say a 14k band to an 18k band? Just curious.

For those of you who have soldered, what are some pros and cons?

Not sure- I would ask a jeweler. But I am getting all 3 of mine soldered together! (I have a top and bottom band). Our jeweler recommended it plus it will be easier to put them all on together. Only con is that you can't just wear your band if you ever don't want to wear your e-ring. I plan on always wearing mine as a set! Also keep in mind that soldering might make your rings fit tighter so you might have to get it resized. Mine spins all the time as it is now so it's not a huge problem, but could be for people's whose rings are squeezed on their finger.

Mine is rose gold and white gold and they soldered them together. You'll have to ask your jeweler Smiley smile

I did not have my soldered together and now my wedding band had scratched the solitaire prongs on my engagement ring. You can add that to the pro side of soldering.

We just soldered my three bands together this week. Our jeweler highly recommends soldering for the exact reason @Jennifer described.

I don't have mine back yet, but they are currently out getting soldered together. I have a rose gold and white gold engagement ring with two white gold diamond wedding bands. Should have it back soon, I'll post a pic Smiley smile

My jeweler suggested not to solder rings in case you want to gift your ring to a future child/grandchild/whatever.

I am not getting my soldered together. I feel like when I have a child and I want to pass down my engagement ring, I don't want it connected to my wedding band. I have read that once you soldered it that if you want it taken apart it can damage the ring as it once was. My FMIL was like you should get it done everyone in my family has done it. No one in my family has. So just keep in mind that it's your preference.

I would never solder my rings. There are times I just wear my wedding band, like at the gym.
