Sola wood flowers dyed for centerpieces

kaybeearr, on September 20, 2017 at 3:04 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 26

I started dying my raw sola wood flowers for my centerpieces. As I was dying them I realized I needed more flowers so those are on the way. Love the way they turned out. May add more purples dyes to the next batch I dye. Pretty soon I'll be assembling the centerpieces.

    So pretty. Was it hard to dye them? I bouquet my bouquets from a company already and thought about ordering raw flowers to dye for decor.

    @danielle I bought a sola wood flower bouquet on esty because I was too nervous I would mess it up. It actually was a lot easier than I thought to dye them. We used water mixed with acrylic paint.

    Those look great! I am thinking of doing sola for my bouquets.

    Can you post how you did it? Did you dip them or use a brush? What was your ratio of paint to water?

    @MrsFutureK

    So we bought the cheap 77 cent acrylic paint at Hobby Lobby. We stuck in stems which I also bought from Hobby Lobby to the back of the flower and used that to help us hold it was we dripped the flower into the paint solution. We added water and paint together to make the paint solution. We noticed that once in water the paint gets way lighter. So the more paint we used the darker the flower would come out. I really wanted a dark purple so we added purple to the dark purple paint we got. I think the ratio is something you have to pay around with since more water/paint affect the color you want to get. One thing we noticed is after a few flowers we had to mix the paint and water around because the paint we settle at the bottom and mess up the flower when we dripped. They do get softer in the water so you can open up the flower more carefully.

    Why did you choose Sola flowers? How comprable is the pricing to real varieties? Which package did you go with? Those look great

    @thyia I choose them because they look kinda real and I can choose my colors. I didn't price any real ones because I never wanted real flowers. I bought one bag of 50 4' Bali, one bag of 50 special collection different sizes and 4 mini flower assortments. I probably ended up paying around 200 for all of them because if they sale they had. I think I will have extras that I use use for decorations on the tables and food table. I am also adding fake leaves, lavender and baby's breath so it has adds some character.
