Sola wood flower progress

Hi! My FH is a woodworker so I decided to go with wood flowers as a nod to him. I wasn’t sure I would be able to pull it off but I started dying them this weekend and while I still have a lot of work ahead of me I am proud of what I got done and wanted to share.

Thank you! I used about 45 variety size flowers. Thatgirl is definitely right. It's much cheaper to get the paint from Walmart or the craft store. I used spray paint for the gold flowers in my bouquet and it worked great too. I couldn't find an acrylic paint that would get the flowers the gold I wanted!

You really did a stunning job! Gives me hope I won't totally muck mine up!!! LOL Smiley laugh

I got mine from Solawoodflowers.com... they didn't smell 'bad' just kind of very natural... a little musty... where did you get your's from? I still have more to order and (probably dumbly) didn't even consider alternative vendors... I would love to see different offerings / prices...

For your glittery / metallic ones - was that simply a metallic paint?

    Thanks!

Thank you so much. The hardest part was getting my bridesmaids ones to be the exact same size!! You can definitely do it. When I get frustrated, I put it down for 20 minutes and come back... lol! I am here for advice if you need anyone.

I got a majority of mine for solawoodsflowers.com. I put them outside on the patio when when I first got them for about 30 minutes to a hour so they may have had a musky smell that I didn't notice at first. I have also bought them from Etsy sites just because shipping use to take forever from solawood. ZonsGarden is a good one. I definitely wait for the sells and order in bulk!

I tried metallic paint at first, but they didn't seem to dye right. I actually light spray painted them with metallic gold and then sprayed a light coat of glitter spray on them. They are not as soft as the dyed ones but they are not super crunch either.

Thanks so much for the info! what brand acrylic did you use? I'll definitely be back to ask more questions once I get started lol

I ordered mine from solawoodflowers.com as well! I ordered last week and they still hadn't shipped but the site does say it can take 10 days for production so luckily I don't need them immediately. I got 100 pack of bali 1.5 inch for $29 and then a few dozen of different types of flowers. I saw some on etsy but it seems much cheaper through this site. although, some on etsy came in assortments that were already colored. Can't wait until mine get here so I can get started.

I just looked today and they (solawoodflowers.com) have 40% off assortments, in case you were looking to order more!

Oh my God those look so good! I wish I known about this wood flowers before my ceremony last year. Would've use them instead of overprice fresh flower bouquet! I am honestly jealous lol

I believe it is called Apple Barrel. It is just from Walmart. When I can't find the color I want there then I will go to Michael's or Hobby Lobby, but they tend be a little more expensive. If the color isn't as dark as you want the first time you can either use less water in your bowl or redip after they dry. I will definitely help with any questions you might have!

Production definitely varies so I am glad I found the site early and started ordering. I just can't afford the $20 VIP to moved in front of the line, but if I ever get into a pinch I might... lol! Thank you for letting me know about the sale! I do need some more!

Love the colors!! And I wish I had pulled mine together like that bouquet but I used the foam core and cannot get the shape I want, also I used essential oils and a dropper to scent mine ... just a few drops down inside and no splotches or streaks

I have now tried working with several different paint brands from Michael's and Hobby Lobby and I think I have had the best success with the one from Hobby Lobby... I can't recall the exact name but I think it had "angie's" in the name... it was probably the cheapest of the one's I have gotten and was truest to color...

Be prepared - and depending on your timeline, and the amount of flowers you actually want - you may want to order more. I ordered a bunch of the 1.5 inch... and they are smaller than I would have expected... in the pic below you can see some of the smaller ones near some of the larger ones - for reference there aren't any in this pic that are larger than 3"

Thank you! I went and bought some paint from walmart, one of my orders just shipped yesterday and I'm still waiting on the other. Glad I ordered when I did as well because this would be nerve-racking waiting too close to wedding day plus I don't want to pay the $20 either!!

Very pretty! my wedding colors are burgundy and gold and I want my flowers to be about the color of those flowers. I ordered a lot of 1.5 inch but luckily when I went back and saw the 40% off sale I ordered some 2 and 3 inch. I thought about it after the fact that those 1.5 would be pretty small!!

I decided to go with wood flowers too for my wedding and I really like how they look. Yours look soooo good and I love the colors you've chosen. I haven't put my centerpieces together but I have my bridal bouquet.

I'm so glad to see someone using these! I've been seriously considering them for bouquets. If I may ask, which bundle did you order? These are beautiful! Also, was it difficult to dye them? They make it look so easy in the videos, but you never know if it's actually as easy as it looks.

I have ordered several times... trying to figure out exactly what I need... I want it to be a kind of flower explosion... so I am expecting I will order more too .... lol

I didn't order one of the "bride boxes" ... I followed the site for sales - which they have OFTEN, sometimes site wide and sometimes for certain items. I ordered a most of mine "by the dozen" but do think I ordered a "classic assortment" too... In the beginning I didn't even know what I would like, so I took advantage of a 50% off sale and purchased "a little bit" of a lot of different flowers to get an idea of what I would like.

It's really not hard to dye them at all... just time consuming. Many of the flowers arrive kinda smushed and getting them wet helps - it does take some time to "reshape" some of them - I used a corn cob holder (the little thing you stick into the corn cob with the 2 sharp prongs) to gently pull petals apart and my fingers to shape a bit... they do take a full overnight to dry... and to get the dark color I want I have had to dye and re-dye those... and the more you dye them they get a bit more brittle - doesn't effect the appearance, but they get a bit more fragile... I recommend NOT using newspaper to rest them on to dry... I did and some of them dried a bit stuck to the paper and got damaged when I had to pick them up. When I dried them on paper towels I didn't have this issue... so the towels are more $$$ but no damage... worth the expense...

They turned out so pretty! I am starting to dye my Sola's today so I've been googling and scrolling through posts on WW all morning about dying them. Haha! I'm doing royal blue, plain (ivory) and skin-on sola flowers. I've got 200 flowers and I'm still unsure how many I want to be blue!
