Hello everyone! I have come upon a little dilemma. I wondered what suggestions you all possibly might have for me. Our venue just changed their floors to a new light oak hardwood flooring. They have asked for us to please ask our guests, in particular the ladies, to please remove their heels for any dancing. I cannot afford a dance floor rental, so I wanted to ask, would you be opposed to taking of your shoes for a “sock hop” cocktail reception? I would provide adorable socks in a basket. Thoughts please!!! 🙏🏼💛😅

I never take my shoes off on the dance floor. I buy shoes that I can wear all night long so there is no need to remove them. I think socks on a new wood floor would be slippery and could be a potential hazard. I also don't wear flip flops - imagine anyone wearing hose trying to put those on, LOL! It surprises me that a wedding venue would put in floors that can't be danced on in shoes. This is their problem, not yours and since they changed the floors after you booked, I agree that they should provide a dance floor at no charge.

ETA: If you have no other choice, I would let guests know upfront so they could bring socks or slippers, or something of their own choosing to change into. Like I mentioned before, I don't wear flip flops (because they hurt between my toes - I couldn't imagine trying to dance in them). I would bring grippy socks with me if this were the case.

If it is not in the contract that guests must wear socks, I would ask Venue to pay for floor. they are creating this problem,

I would want to be told to take my shoes off and I may be wrong but you don't take your shoes off at a sock hop. My daughter had one for her 8th birthday. If the venue didn't tell you that before you signed the contract you don't have to abide by that. Are they going to ask that of all their clients after you?
