Socially Distant Table Setting?

Laurissa, on June 5, 2020 at 12:34 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13

We are planning a small, socially-distant wedding in August of 30 people (assuming that's allowed in CA!). Our venue provides 8' and 12' long farm tables. We figure we'll put 2 people on each end of the 8' tables, and for the 12' tables we'll do 2 on each end, and 2 in the middle, so everyone is appropriately spread out. As far as table decor, do you think I should put a small vase (or something) at each grouping to delineate the seating areas, or put stuff in the middle as a "divider" between them? Has anyone thought this out yet? I'm not finding any examples on Google or Pinterest yet :p

You could have them seated in a zigzag. You don't need a divider between them.

I would not do a divider between them. As long as they're reasonably spaced, it'll be okay. Do you have place settings that would delineate the seating arrangement?

Escort cards will solve this problem. Place at every seat and boom. That’s where they go lol

I wasn't thinking an actual divider (don't think the plexiglass dividers will look very good), I was thinking more of a metaphorical divider between the two sides. Below is a couple of the options I was thinking of. This would be at an 8' table, so normally it seats 8. Could also put people on the ends when I have a group of 3.

I was also considering renting bistro/cocktail tables to seat each household group (1-3 people). That might look less weird to spread out. However, I can't find any examples of that, and not sure if they even sell/rent linens in that size (unless I did tall cocktail tables)? Could also do picnic blankets, but that's much more informal.

This is a nice idea. i think the second option is fine of the three photos you placed.

I would not care so much about social distancing, seriously.

We're in California so things are still pretty strict. I'm worried they're still not even going to be allowing weddings come August (looks like in San Fran hotels can't open until Mid August, and no word on weddings). Also, we have some guests who are pretty anxious so we're trying to make everyone feel as comfortable as possible. I wish we didn't have to, but that's just our reality right now!

We are doing a “picnic” style reception with cocktail tables in our backyard. One household per table and tables 6 feet apart. The food will be in boxes for them to take back to their tables. We are only have 30 guests and have a good size backyard so we are hoping it works out.

I love that! We were trying to do that as well but our yard is too small. Let me know how it goes!

I think the first diagram is the best. Usually each table would have a centerpiece, so this feels the most like a regular table set up. If you're worried that people will try to get closer to each other and you want to make it more obvious, you could add perpendicular table runners between each group of chairs.

I just did a little bit of research and not all rental places have them but it is possible to get short cocktail tables (30" round x 30" tall) and you would need 90" tablecloths to fit on them the same way dinner tables are normally covered. If you can find the short tables but not the appropriate tablecloths, you could always put them on the way cocktail tables are usually dressed, where they have a ribbon tied around them like it's a belt.
