Maybe this is actually a huge, popular thing, but I had never heard about it! When my DJ pitched the idea, I was sold. Since I wanted an unplugged ceremony, he said before the processional starts he would let our guests know that once I walked down the aisle, he would give everyone 60 seconds to get up, take all the photos and videos they wanted, take a selfie with the bride and groom, anything! After that, the phones get put away. And it was a HUGE hit. So incredibly fun and so many guests told me they loved being able to come take photos with us before we tied the knot. The frenzy that took place was so funny, the Live Photos are pure gold. Highly recommend it for anyone who wants to do something a little fun/different before all the phones get put away.

I've never heard of that before. I can see how people want unplugged ceremonies though. I didn't have unplugged and so when I walked down the aisle there were so many cameras on me and it was a bit overwhelming

I've never heard of this either but it sounds interesting, fun and different! I'll have to see what FH thinks

What a unique idea! I can't decide how I feel about it! Part of me is like, "yes! The more pictures the better!" But then the other part of me feels like it would take away from the moment for me personally. Super fun idea though!

I went to a wedding that *after* the processional, the officiant had the couple turn towards the audience and addressed us, and said “okay everyone! Take your pics now! This is your shot. And then put the phones away for the rest of the ceremony.” I thought it was a great idea— it seemed pretty effective, and everyone still got their pics. And then, were good and attentive for the remainder of the ceremony.

Maybe I'm the odd one out on this one but personally I am the opposite! I am all about the hashtag and plan on having our guests use it to tag any and all wedding photos. I'm all about the social media so for me I would encourage my guests to stay plugged!

For us, the unplugged ceremony just meant that our guests were more present during the processional and as we exchanged vows. We 100% had a wedding hashtag and everyone used it! They just couldn’t have their phones out during the ceremony (with the exception of that 60 seconds), which only lasted ~20 minutes anyways. It honestly made for some really nice, clean ceremony photos with no phones in the air or people leaning in the aisle to get a good shot. But I love that I have all my guests’ photos from the cocktail hour and reception, because our photogs couldn’t be everywhere at once!

Absolutely! I can totally understand for the ceremony to remain unplugged! 20 minutes isn’t too bad at all! I’m glad your guests utilized your hashtag! Mine will be a traditional catholic ceremony so most people should know no cell phones in church but bless everyone who can sit through the hour of mass! I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea
