Just Said Yes April 2022

So my wedding venue basically was taken away from me.

Natalia, on April 30, 2021 at 3:23 PM Posted in Planning 0 12
So today I was supposed to sign the contract for my wedding venue we were so excited and ready to put down our deposit. We got an email stating that our date was not longer available. It was just poof gone over night. After calling and discussing it with the venue the told me they are sorry but gave my date away because they sold there other venue and a bride who already paid would need to take my date. I feel like this is so wrong. Now all the other date that were available are now taken. So they feel that it’s okay to take my date but meanwhile keep there promise to the other bride who had a hold on there date. Now we are scrambling to find another wedding venue for spring of next year in Austin, tx.

Did you sign a contract or give any money up to this point? If not, unfortunately they are able to book the date with someone else. I know it is disheartening. But you will find something else that is perfect.

Did you have a soft hold on the date, or some other verbal agreement with them not to book it within a certain window?

Its not "your date" until you sign a contract and pay your deposit.

Unfortunately from a business perspective at some point they have to take the money right in front of them.

If you had an appointment with them to sign the contract and put the deposit down it's kind of disappointing, but it's still their right as a business to take what they want. The other event that got booked was likely more lucrative than your wedding.

Try to be flexible with your date or push it back a year. It gives more time to plan and save and really get what you want.

Exactly this. It sucks but money always talks. Someone who already paid is going to always get first Dibs. That's just how businesses work and how they will continue to work. Nothing is a guarantee in the world of business unless you already paid for it. And it really wouldn't be fair to the other bride who already secured her date with a deposit to have to move her date or change venues. Soon enough I'm sure you will find something better and realize that this is a blessing in disguise.

That’s a real bummer, but the venue was put in a predicament and the only fair option would be to offer the bride who already had it booked that spot. Are you hard to sit on your date? You wouldn’t be willing to take a different date for that venue? It’s in the spring so I don’t think you should have too many issues finding a new venue as it will be over a year away.

Too bad about the venue. Take a look at eventective.com and see if there is anything that works.

Im sorry this happened. However, As others have said, unless you did sign a contract and put down a deposit, then you didn’t have the venue. Unless you wrote an agreement down to hold the date. There’s much you can do. Venues have the right to give the day away to other brides if they signed a contract and paid. It’s unfortunate, but that’s how it goes unfortunately. Best of luck to you!

Not to reiterate what everyone else said, but that is indeed how contracts (or lack thereof) work. But Austin is huge city! And next spring is still a year away! This could be a blessing im disguise, you could find another venue that you hadn't even considered before thats even better! Good luck!

I toured and booked my venue all in the same day. I'm sure I also broke some couple's heart too if they were hoping to secure our date. But we went into our tour knowing it was a popular venue and popular "wedding season" date, so we were prepared to sign the contract that day. I'd recommend you do the same for the next place you find & like!

Since everyone else mentioned contracts, I'll offer another perspective, since that isn't all it's about...

If you were the other bride, who had already booked, and were now being told you had to move venues - a big let-down in itself, usually - wouldn't you expect to have first dibs on dates at the other venue?

Sorry about the situation, but you'll find a new venue.

It's really a terrible situation but wedding season is crazy and now that many have had to postpone it's even worse! This is why you have to jump on something and put a deposit down as soon as possible. I never was ever set on a single date and I'm not sure how much you are but are there any other dates around it you'd consider or even another day like a Friday or Sunday?
