So I Have a Color Problem...

Callie Sue, on May 20, 2017 at 10:54 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

I can't decide what to do about my bridesmaids' dresses! FH and I looked at colors over a month ago and really liked the "wine" color from DB ("cabernet" on Azazie), so he had his groomsmen go ahead and get their ties to match that. Meanwhile, I fell in love with a bridesmaid dress on Azazie (and I love that it has some degree of sleeves since we're marrying in Dec.), but it doesn't come in that color. It comes in burgundy, which is more red, and after ordering swatches, I think I actually like that color a little bit more. FH doesn't want to make his groomsmen order different ties because he doesn't want to be a pain (I don't either). I just don't know what to do. DB has a dress I like, too, but I'm not over the moon about it, and the style doesn't strike me as winter-appropriate (even though we're having a CA wedding). I'll post some photos of the dress styles so y'all can see them and the colors.

Ties & dresses won't really be touching in photos, so...will anyone notice that the colors don't perfectly match?

I don't think the color difference is severe enough to notice the ties and dresses matching in photos!

Buy the groomsmen ties to match.

Are the ties the groomsmen bought a solid color? If not, it doesn't really matter that they don't match the BM dresses.

If you really want the groomsmen to wear different ties, then I think it is on the two of you to purchase them.

Comparing the swatches, the colors are VERY different next to each other. Wine makes burgundy look red, and burgundy makes wine look murky purple. FH showed me a photo of the tie awhile ago and I don't remember it perfectly, but I know it was a solid color. I wouldn't dream of making the groomsmen buy new ties themselves; honestly I think the ideal solution would be for us to get them, but I don't think FH would be on board with that because he'd see it as an unnecessary additional cost. Do y'all think it would be worth reaching out to Azazie to ask if they'll offer that dress style in the wine color by this fall?

I thought I'd post a photo of the swatches together. Maybe they're different enough to not matter, esp since ties aren't very big? Honestly I'm more worried about it looking like we tried to match them and failed at it...

@Callie Sue definitely reach out to them via email. When I did that though they told me the new color wasn't "taking" to all the fabrics/dresses well so that's why not all dresses are offered in that color, so I'm not sure if it will change but they got back to me very quickly via email. Also if I remember correctly, Azazie also sells ties for a decent price, so while it may be an added expence, it shouldn't be too bad!

@ MrsWToBe, thank you for the info! Yes, the ties are like $16, which I really don't think is bad at all. Still, it's almost $100 that my frugal fiance would probably not want to shell out for something like a tie when the groomsmen already have some, regardless of my color frustration. That's the struggle of being color-oriented as an artist and marrying an engineer, I suppose, haha. Smiley smile

You could do accents of both colors, maybe do draping in both colors throught the wedding so it looks like you were going for depth versus "failing at matching colors"?

We are doing navy and royal blue so that was a worry of mine, but after seing it together we fell in love

@ Amber, I think you just really helped to ease my mind. I was already planning on using a mixture of wine/burgundy/pinks (kinda similar to the colors in these photos) with grey, so maybe that'll be enough to bridge the gap so it doesn't look weird.

As a guest, I would never notice the color difference. You're worrying too much, as we all do at some point! Have the girls get the dress you like best.

I'm going through the same struggle with the wine/Cabernet color selection. Interested to know what you decide to do.

Another option is to incorporate both colors. This way you can get the colors you like and the groomsmen don't have to change their colors.

I think the slight difference in color is no big deal. No one will notice.

I don't think anyone will notice. I agree with Jeanine P. and Amber B. if you can incorporate those colors and your happy with the outcome, go for it.
