So Do i Call it a "cocktail Hour"

Mandi, on March 12, 2020 at 2:07 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 10
Even tho its 2.5 hours long?

As previously posted, Wednesday, my venue basically came back and said oh yeah, have a cocktail hour, it's free. So ok. But my wedding will probably get over with around 4:15/4:30 and the reception starts at 7.I thought about just making an order of events, or even arrows. But what do I call 2.5 hours of a cocktail hour?
If your suggestion is to move the times, thank you, next.
This is happening in 2 weeks.

    “Cocktail Time”? Lol

Honestly, I don’t think anyone will care too much that your cocktail hour isn’t exactly an hour. I mean, restaurant offer “Happy Hour” and it usually lasts longer than one hour.

I would move the times around a bit if you could. That’s a long time in between the ceremony and reception. You could lose people who don’t want to hang around that long. If not, I don’t think cocktail hour is limited to an hour.

Just make sure to provide food / drink and chairs for guests to help pass that time.

Is everything at the same venue? Why don’t you just have the ceremony at the time it is and start cocktail hour at 6? And then your reception starts at 7. That gives people 1.5 hrs in between to do what they want and to travel to your reception. Unless everything is at the same place. Then maybe you could say something like please join us for celebration cocktails during 4:30-7, followed by dinner and dancing.

Is the reception at the same place as the ceremony?

I would STRONGLY suggest in reference to your other post that you add heavier foods to your "cocktail time" as 2.5 hours of DRINKING with nothing but popcorn or chex mix will not prove well for your guests. What time are you serving dinner? Let's just say you serve dinner at 7:30pm...your guests will not have eaten most likely since lunch and will be drinking at your cocktail hour, that mean's they will have gone almost 8 hours without a meal. I would heavily, heavily suggest either a shorter cocktail hour OR heavier as in prepared food at cocktail hour. You could also suggest people eat a late lunch as in around 2:30-3:30 to prevent people becoming too intoxicated to continue the evening.

I have confidence in all of our guests that they know how to plan for a 7:30pm meal. I don't feel the need to reach out and ask them to eat a late lunch. I'm sure they have attended weddings before.
