So confused with tipping

Andrea, on September 23, 2019 at 2:50 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 5
Our wedding is Saturday and I’m still uncertain how much to tip so hoping for some advice!

our photographer , videographer, ceremony music and hair and makeup team are independent. What is an appropriate to tip?

Do we tip the venue coordinators or give a gift?
Thinking of a gift certificate? How much?

The DJ is coming from a company so I read 20% but based on the fee that’s a few hundred dollars.

Everything I've read is to try and hit at least 8 - 10% for any tip that goes to an independent vendor, and 12-20% for any person who isn't independent.

My wedding planner said only hair and makeup would be expecting a tip, and that it's typically $100 per person (like $100 to the hairdresser and $100 each to your two make up artists). Everyone else won't be expecting a tip, but will appreciate anything you can give.

Also bartenders/servers should be tipped but that might be part of your catering bill.

I tipped every server and bartender like 30 each bucks, I think. Idk my FIL gave out the tips and I just gave him money based on how many staff the coordinator told me there would be. I did not tip the venue coordinator because she sucked. It was odd, but she didn't earn it. I would have tipped her $50 to $100. My dj and photographer were self employed. I planned on tipping them each $100. They wanted meals that cost $50 each (not in their contract), so I purchased their meals and gave them $50 in envelopes. I gave the officiant a $25 tip (along with his fee) and donated $75 to a local dog rescue per his request. The HMUA were tipped 20%. It was automatically added onto my bill. They will appreciate a tip. What is the difference between a giftcard and cash? I would just give cash. Congrats!

We’re tipping everyone (except our baker and officiant) 20%. Oh unless the gratuity is already included in the total.

I usually think at least 15% would be nice.
