Snail Mail or Email Save the Dates?

Amanda, on October 18, 2018 at 12:35 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

I originally wanted to do snail mail invites, but am coming up on delays and was wondering if it's better to just send out a free email invite to get the ball rolling rather than spending a lot of time and money on snail mail. I can always do snail mail for invites, but I don't know if that's necessary for save the dates.

    It’s really all about preference.

    I did both snail 🐌 mail 💌 & email 📧

I snail 🐌 mailed the save the dates that I made on Zazzle.

I also used my Zola wedding website to keep track of who RSVP’d.

I like getting a save the date in the mail so I can put it on my fridge. You can't do that with an email. We did post cards for ours - cheaper to print and cheaper to mail.

I feel like it is based on your guests.
If They are tech savvy and use their email a lot, I would email them.
Personally, I don't use email to contact friends. It's more like business and subscriptions (which gets to be a lot and I ignore it Some times, so i miss important emails).
    I prefer traditional postage. 📬

I prefer snail mail instead of email.....a lot of times people overlook their emails, sending them through the mail would be better...but it's really up to you and what you prefer.

We had a link to our RSVP website and I honestly texted it to close friends and tech savvy family to get the ball rolling, but I mailed a few invitations to the traditional (i.e. older) crowd. My grandma doesn't have email and wouldn't be able to figure out how to RSVP online, so we handed her a framed picture of us, a physical invitation with the info, and asked in person if she could make it. So a combination worked for me and we saved a small bundle on postage and printing.

I also had a few coupons for free magnets from Shutterfly that I abused - each time I got ten free magnets with our engagement photo and wedding date, gave out one per family.

I think it’s fine etiquette wise but I get hundreds of emails and it would be easy to get lost in the shuffle

I prefer actual paper save the dates. I think it's way harder to collect emails AND addresses, since you will send actual invites in the mail I assume?

I personally did emails at first and then my cousin demanded a printed one, so I ordered enough for everyone and mailed them even though everyone got one via email!

I like this option because it's already been a month since our engagement, so I want tech savvy people to get a heads up, and I could use Paperless Post to keep it classy. However, there are a few older people I want to invite who don't have an email address, and for them I'd take more time with ordering supplies and making the cards.
