Snagging Cocktail Food???

Chantelle, on May 12, 2020 at 10:47 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
Hello, sorry if this is a dumb question, but is there a way to secure some cocktail apps/drink for the wedding couple, the family, and the bridal party? I know during cocktail hour... the couple, family, and bridal party are taking photos. Is it a thing to ask the venue or somebody to save some apps/signature drink for the photo shoot group?

Catering is definitely the largest cost by far of my wedding, and I just feel bad that maybe we the wedding couple, our parents, and our bridal party might not even get to try any cocktail hour food/drinks.
Or is the only thing to do is to just make sure get back to the cocktail hour area before the “hour” is over? lol. I don’t think we will need the full hour because we are planning to do the first look photo shoot. So our after ceremony pics shouldn’t take as long.
How have you guys been able to snag some of your cocktail hour food/drinks? Just getting back before it’s over?

I don’t see the harm in asking if the venue or caterer can do that

We did couples photos last, so our wedding party and families definitely had time to get apps while we were doing our photos. We didn’t ask but our caterer took it upon themselves to set aside some apps for us at our sweetheart table. I hadn’t even thought about it.

I have done a lot of catering gigs, real pros will already set aside portions for VIPs (bride/groom/party) but I would be sure to check that they understand they should do this! Always double check anything you want for sure Smiley laugh

Tell the caterer and they'll set some aside for you

Have a close friend -not in wedding party- grab a plate or two for you to have. Or ask caterer.

We asked the catering staff to leave us plates of hors douvres on our sweetheart table so we could eat them at the reception. Unfortunately they didn’t listen and instead, brought them to us while we were taking family photos. We were shoving food into our mouths between photos lol. It was stressful and annoying... I only got to eat about half of mine, and I think my husband only got a bite or 2. Super disappointing. But I recommend asking your caterers to leave you a plate of hors douvres to have at the beginning of the reception! Hopefully they’ll listen to you lol

From what I know in the bridal suite at my venue they will have food from the cocktail hour waiting for us. I am however hoping to take a lot of photos before so I can go to some of my cocktail hour. But Plan B would be to enjoy it in the bridal suite.

Ask the day of coordinator or catering contact to put a plate together for you.

My Venue Actually Has Staff Pushing A Cart Of Cocktail Hour Food And Drinks Around For Us During Our Photos. You Should Definitely Ask If It's An option. If Not, Maybe Do Your Photos With Everyone Else First So They Can Get Back Before Cocktail Hour Ends.

My husband and I did a first look. We also did bridesmaids and groomsmen photos beforehand. The only photos we had to do after the ceremony were family photos, group bridal party photos, and some additional photos of just the two of us. After the family and group bridal party photos, they went to cocktail hour so they were able to get food and drinks. We did however run into a problem with some of the people in our bridal party grabbing drinks during family photos. My photographer had to yell at them to put their drinks down because they needed to be in photos and none of them were listening to me. Once our additional photos were done, our wedding coordinate got our parents and bridal party from cocktail hour and had them line up for the grand entrance and opened the ballroom for the rest of the guests to take their seats. The best man (I think it was him, but it could have been someone else) brought my husband a glass of our signature drink for him to try while we were waiting to be announced. I don't drink so I didn't care that I didn't get to try our signature drink. Once our entrance and first dance we done, our venue had a plate for us at our sweetheart table with food from cocktail hour for us to have.

Our venue has a separate room set up for the couple, parents, and bridal party for a separate, more intimate cocktail hour set up with drinks and food. We'll do a first look and formal portraits before the ceremony and then enjoy the more intimate cocktail hour (and food!) with the small group. You could ask your venue if there's a separate place where they could do this?
